Bookworm
So after my old hookah vase broke I decided to retire the stem and hose and get a whole new hookah. Which was when I found this forum. The other day my friend asks me if he can have my old stem. So I decided to pull it out and clean it. My cleaning brushes won't even fit down the stem because it's too thin!anyways, we're gonna go this weekend and get him a new vase, tongs, shisha, coals, etc. It might be a bad stem, but it's free for him the same way it was free to me.but how would you recommend getting it REAL clean? The tiny bit I was able to scrub near the top (using my tiny purge valve brush) was REALLY nasty dirty.
Vladimir
I never clean my stem beyond running water down it. Your best bet for drying it though is if you have access to an air compressor.
antouwan
pour some baking soda, lemon juice and hot water down that - it should clean things up pretty nice; that's how i cleaned my myas (the inside is so porous that brushes really don't accomplish all that much)

Then Lemon Juice will get rid of the rest of the smells inside, rinse, and dry out what you can (it scrubs off a little extra)Or if you REALLY want to get it clean get a gun cleaning brush set, (Walmart $6) Find the brush that fits and scrub the hell out of it. You'd be surprised how much it'll clean better than the old brushes.
cr15p3rz
i've been using i straightened out coat hanger with strips of those green scrubbing pads twisted around it(cannot remember whose idea it was originally but i got it from here) it works fine and all but how long are these gun cleaning brushes i have been so curious about them but not enough to go to walmart and buy one yet? JByer323
A firearm cleaning kit is going to contain a cleaning rod, and an 1" (ish) bronze or nylon brush. I would not use Hoppes #9 on a hookah, for some reason I don't think smoking that would be a good idea.I've used the epson salts and rubbing alcohol trick, which works well, but will etch an acrylic Mya base. Don't ask me how I know.
smokeytheclown
Here's what I did for drying the inside of the stem. I cut a small piece of chamois just large enough to give a snug fit in the tube, threaded a long piece of waxed thread or string through the middle, tied it securely, and attached a nail to the other end of the string to make a pull through. Clean the hell outta your stem, rinse, and use the pull through to dry the inside of the stem. Works like a charm!
Sonthert
Beer. You know those half-full and forgotten bottles of beer after the party? Now you know what to do with them. It makes an excellent hookah cleaning fluid.

Bookworm
the gun cleaning kit sounds perfect. The moment that was suggested it seems like a no-brainer idea. But I will try some beer after tonight, it is thirsty thursday!
