My Grandfather's Passing

I just wanted to check in and tell you all that I've been away for a while because my grandfather has been ill with bone cancer. He passed away today. His name was Fred Knowles. He was an extremely good man. He ran a men's executive clothing store called Bonney and Gordon's in Sacramento for almost 50 years. I'm very proud to say that I am his grandson and he will be missed. We're not saddened by his passing so much as we're celebrating his life. He really did live it to the fullest. There was rarely a year that went by that him and my grandmother didnt take a trip to some exotic locale on vacation. He was a great fisherman and the only grandfather I knew. He was honory till the end, dying peacefully with a smirk on his face.

If you guys could, even though you didnt know him, dedicate a bowl to him. I appreciate it. All the best to all of you guys.

May your family find peace in these hard times and may all of your memories of your grandfather be pleasant and stay with you for the rest of your days. I truly feel your pain as I too recently lost my grandfather. This weekend myself and about 10 good friends are going to be getting together so I can assure you that several bowls will be enjoyed in honor of a man who obviously knew how to enjoy life himself.

I'm so sorry for you loss Eddie, my grandfather passed two years ago and he was one hell of a man. They way you speak of yours, he is undoubtedly a man of undying stature and composure. My prayers go out to you and your family and I hope I can help in the celebration of his life. I wasn't planning on smoking but this bowl of AF Apple Eskandarani is for Fred Knowles, man of honor and family.

I'm glad you had such a good example of how to live one's life well. I'll dedicate tonight's bowl to him. My grandpa passed away about a year ago and though he was a pretty surly guy, I miss him for the good times and the wisdom shared. Thanks for your story Bulldog.

You guys are all awesome, thank you so much. We're having the memorial celebration on May 16th.

I wish I could smoke a bowl in his honor right now, I've been down with a cold for about a week now so I'm keeping away till I'm 100%.

My family is coping well, we're all keeping a bit of a sense of humor and perspective on the whole thing. My dad (his son) is doing better now that there isnt any uncertainty about the whole thing and that pain is no longer an issue. There's a kind of relief in his passing, it sounds weird I know but that's just the feeling. I'm just kind of saddened that he had just finished closing his store to retire to a life of travel and relaxation and this has to happen. It's really unfortunate. But he had a great run.

Once again, thank you all, your words mean so much to me.

Cheers!

looking from a religious or spiritual standpoint.
he is retiring to a life of peace and relaxation now.
more than he would ever find here.
glad you're making it, bro.

Bulldog, I just ordered some new tangiers, first bowl when it gets here is gonna be dedicated to him man. I am lucky enough to still have my grandfather, and finally have an actual relationship with him (he's pretty distant, he was abused as a kid) but he's finally opened up to his family the past few years and it's really nice. I like what you said about celebrating his life instead of mourning his passing, that's how I'd want to be remembered too, think about what I did, not that I am gone.

My deepest sympathy to you and yours. The last two years have been rough for me as well. Lost my grandpa two years ago, and my grandma last year. I am glad that you have found solace in remembering the good times. The bowl tonight will not only be dedicated to your grandfather, but to you and your family, as well as anyone who has lost someone close recently.
