Olivwood Bowl

Recommended Posts

First attempt did not go so well there is some white spots forming on the outside of the bowl

I added more tobacco but I had maybe 10 mins of good smoke and flavor

Scalli any advice on packing perhaps a video tutorial would be helpful

Which setup did you use Hip, the phunnel or conventional? Are you using the coal bucket and did you put holes in the bottom?
Without know how you set it up it's hard to guess. Can you take a pic so I can see what you mean by white spots? I'm not real sure what that could be.
I will do a vid tutorial this evening with a more detailed setup. Also, did you break up your coal?

I set up the bowl as a phunnel and place the tobacco a little under the coal tray the tray has about 10-14 pin size holes in it. I use 1 coconara coal and it worked well for a few minutes before tasted terrible

I haven't tried mine yet. But pin size is your problem. I have tried smaller holes on my bowls like that using a guitar string, needle and what not. It's always fine for a minute or so then the heat just chars the crap out of the tobacco.

I used a pushpin for the holes what do you recommend to make the holes with?

I think you scorched the shisha. Are you sure it did not get aganst the bottom of the coal bucket? See if there is any sign of any stuck to it. Also like Stuie said you should make bigger holes or I think you could just use a whole lot more little ones.
If you use tiny holes less ash gets in is what I have found.
Did you break up the coal? It makes all the difference in the world. With cocanaros you may want to light two of them and break them up, throw in a bit over one coal and toss in a bit more if needed.
I don't have any cocos to test.

If you break the coal up and have it across the entire bottom of the coal bucket you will get really even heating. I'm charging my camera batteries and going to have a full detailed how to before the night is up.
What brand and flavor are you smoking BTW?

I gonna give that tea light the end of my Phillips screwdriver and see how that goes. Tea lights are cheap... wish i didn't throw out that giant box of them left over from my wedding.

I just got mine ten minutes ago.  I must say this thing looks amazing.  Trying to see what all the different pieces are used for.

Definitely will be looking forward to your detailed video.

Thanks Scalli.

Click ended up with my favorite bowl and Hippie got the really close second sad.gif I figured if I'm not making ones I want to keep on a regular basis then I'm not doing a good job. So there will be more keepers. At least I'm gonna keep telling myself that wink.gif

Video coming soon and detailed pics posted here. Did you guys review the thread I made on setting them up?

I forgot about that thread you wrote about setting up the bowl.  I will go review it now.
