hookah coals and bowl

Recommended Posts

Until anybody else gets to it I can try for a not exactly precise mathematical explanation.

The bowl gets really damn hot =)
Your coal causes the shisha (tobacco...I incorrectly call it shisha...)
to start evaporating...or rather, the glycerin or honey to start
vaporizing, which is partially why the smoke is so white. That, and the
lack of tar.

Your hookah smoke should be cold for a number of reasons - the water
you're using is likely to be room temperature or colder. The smoke
travels a decent distance and the mixture with your room temperature
air causes the smoke to not be as damn hot as the bowl. You ever smoke
a cigar/cloves/cigarettes you'll notice you don't run screaming when
you take a puff - you're not inhaling the coals themselves, just the
smoke that still travels and mixes with air.

If you have too much heat or if you pack your bowl way too full then
you'll notice it gets "harsh" - this is usually a result of the shisha
actually "burning". It's not usually ignited in these situations, just
overly hot to the point that you're having more than vaporizing
glycerine, not to mention a larger smoke to air ratio.

Correct me if I'm wrong, it just seems straight forward to me since
I've been smoking a lot recently. Nothing has been researched. The FDA
has not approved my statements. The statements are not intended to
treat or cure any disease. Side effects include misinformation,
ignorance, and degenerative knowledge of  including but not
limited to the "Argileh, Nargile, Hookah, Shisha, Hubble-Bubble,
Hubbly-Bubbly, Water Pipe, or Bong (to the ignorant)". By reading the
above statements you agree to not hold me liable for any destruction of
property, physical or psychological injury, or death. Comes with
everything you see here. Ken doll sold separately. Batteries and not
included. May present choking hazard to young children. Read
responsibly.

God I hope you all ignored that. I'm so tired it's not even funny. Okay maybe just a little...

Coal temperature.Excellent question, I have been thinking about doing a reserch project on temperature vs. carbon monoxide production. Charcoal vary in temperature.  Which are hotter and which are cooler, I cannot tell you. Natural coal should be burning right around 500-550 degrees F. My guess is that Chinese coals burn slightly cooler, and Japanese coals burn slightly hotter and those crazy coconut coals burn the hottest of them all.
