Some people argue that it helps to give more flavour. Others say that it makes the smoke smoother. It's also nice if you don't like the bubbling of the hookah. Personally, I'm not a huge fan, but I do agree that the smoke is a tad more flavorful (although not significantly much more)

the point of a diffuser is to seperate the smoke into small bubbles, thus creating more surface area of smoke to be cooled by water. It's a difference, just not a big one. It doesn't really help with flavor from my experiences.. more or less its a silencer for your hookah. Especially nice if your rig is set up on a glass table too.

well i made one out of a pill bottle and two things i noticed . More smoke with less effort . I barley have to hit it once it got going. As for flavor dont taste a real difference. but i do notice my water is now more discolored than before

I have been wondering the same thing for quite some time. I felt like it would be a dumb question so I decided to wait for someone else to ask it, lol tongue.gif . I knew it made the bubbling quieter, but wasn't sure what else it did. I am assuming that the smoke get filtered better as well because of the increase in bubbles. I know some of the diffusers online vendors sell have carbon in them, does that really make much of a difference? If so, where would one find carbon to buy?

+1 I dont understand why that happens?

Possibly the water is filtering the smoke better, causing more of the nasty to stay in the water instead of the smoke?

I have a heba diffuser and I dont believe it improves the flavor of the shisha. It seems like it does improve the amount of smoke though.

I have one too and I LOVE it ! Silencer, and It makes more smoke with less effort. Also, It seems like the smoke feels smoother and cooler, but that could just be in my head. smile.gif

I would never use a hookah without one.

this is the main point of a diffuser. the smaller bubbles means more surface area, which means more water touching the smoke. more water touching the smoke = more bad particles gone.

the improvement in flavor is because there is less bad tasting stuff.

there are 3 reasons for a diffuser
1) filter the smoke better
2) cool the smoke better
3) silencer for the hookah

improvement in flavor is a personal opinion....otherwise that would be a reason.

There isn't any reason to go out and order a diffuser. You can easily make one in 5 minutes. Just get 3-6 (depends on how wide your stem is) bendy straws and put them inside the stem up to the ribs and point them in different directions. Don't pack them in to the point that the straws start becoming mashed up, but you want them in there tight enough that they won't come out while smoking.

Yup, or fold any sort of metal mesh around the bottom of the downstem. I've used mesh from an old computer fan filter (after I got the dust off of course) and it worked great. Didn't make much of a difference other than sound though IMO.
