How Tricky Is Nakhla?

Recommended Posts

I've been having trouble getting the same kind of clouds and flavor that I get out of my usual fumari with al-waha, which I recently got 6 50g boxes of. I've been thoroughly disappointed by Kiwi and Apricot, and I've only gotten moderately good clouds and flavor from banana, honey, and power bull (which is actually not bad, definitely exceeded my very low expectations) but the best bowls didn't last very long. I've tried all 3 different screens (with different hole patterns) and varied from 1-3 jap coals, with best results coming from high heat (2 coals and a bit)

anyways, my friend got me all worried that if I stock up on nakhla that I run the risk of getting the same bad experience, only on a larger scale (I only paid for 100g of the Al-Waha) Is nakhla a difficult shisha to acclimate?

Nakhla is about the easiest there is.

Its pretty dry, so billowing clouds might not be the order of the day if you don't have a good technique. You can always add a little glycerin to it, though.

Al Waha is another drier brand, not big in the clouds department.

I'd say if Fumari is your normal smoke you judge by, both of those are gonna come up short without extra care.

I load up an egyptian bowl to within about 1/8 of the rim for Nakhla and drop two Coconaras on top, and replace the coals as needed throughout the session. Never had a problem. Same with a Mya bowl. With a small phunnel, I use three cocos and follow the same procedure. I get about 1 hour or so with the egyiptian bowl and about 2 with the phunnel.

You can get quite impressive clouds with Nakhla if you pack it right. I have yet to get the packing completely right for Nakhla Mizo, but I have gotten down packing the original Nakhla quite well. If you pack Nakhla loosely and stop adding tobacco when it has reached somewhat above the rim of the bowl take your foil and put it on the bowl. This will make the pack the Nakhla slightly more than other brands and if done right you will get nice clouds though they will not be white like the wetter brands but more grey. By the way this is being packed in an Egyptian Bowl.
