Af White Grape Fail

i think the best person to ask about AF grape is SmokinMoose. he pretty much smokes that exclusively so he has probably smoked from nearly every batch.

You know what's funny? Last year I bought 2x 250g of Grape, 250g of White Grape and 250g of Grape Mint. All ketchupy. Pondered to throw them out, but decided to keep them. Took out one of the Grape-containers and the Grape Mint-container about a month ago, and the ketchup smell is gone. Don't know why.

I still maintain that a certain component of the aroma in high enough concentrations smells like ketchup. After awhile it fades and grape smell returns. Aroma chemicals are quite common in that one concentration smells like X, a higher concentration smells like Y.

I smelled Fusion Black Grape and detected a slight ketchup smell, too.

To me, all grape flavors (except Tangiers) smell Ketchupy. None of them taste like Ketchup, though. Nakhla Mizo Grape smells like Ketchup to me and it tastes amazing.

Let it sit out for a little while, don't smell it, pack it, and light it and enjoy.

AF Grape may smell like Ketchup sometimes but once I smoke it is fine.

Also I would suggest dumping out of the AF bag into the container and mixing it up.

I smoke AF Grape all the time I have never experienced a funky tasting bowl.

Sure, but you don't find it a little odd that out of no where people started getting a different sense of smell?

The same people that used to smoke it before and agreed that it was one of the best flavors started talking about how it smells/taste like ketchup.

I once got 2 of my friends to smell AF Golden Grape. I asked them what they thought it smelled like. The both said grape candies.

Then, I told them I was gonna mess with their perception of the smell.

I said: It smells like ketchup.


Now, they smell nothing but ketchup.

exactly, when i smell white grape, i smell the white grape, but if i look for ketchup, it smells like ketchup, smoke it and love it.

Its not that there isn't a ketchup like smell, to me its very pungent and rancid smell but you let it sit for a bit and than smoke it and you will be fine. Dont let the smell help you judge on how it tastes.

Doesn't change the fact that you're wrong. It's very plausible that some of the people who have reported it to taste like ketchup has found it to do so after seing other people report it on this forum. That still doesn't change the fact that Sonthert is right about his first comment. Saying that " it's all psychological" based on "2 of my friends" is not really enough to prove wrong the couple of dozen members that has noticed the ketchup-smell. It's like if I would claim that "it is never neccesary to acclimate Tangiers. The reports of soy sauce or bbq smell is all psychological, and a product of imagination".

A lot of my AF Grape, AF White Grape and AF Grape with mint had the ketchup smell. Of the AF grape-shishas I have today, one container smells like ketchup and two smells just like they ought to. nowhere did i say that psychological was the only reason. it does have a slight odd smell to it but i think most people just hopped on the bandwagon after one person said it smells like ketchup. it sounds like you got a little too worked up over this topic. please relax.

Heh, I guess I sounded a little arrogant. Kinda ironic, when I was trying to point out that it's kinda arrogant to belittle all of those who's pointed out the ketchup-smell . Could be that a lot of people jumped the bandwagon, but to me it seems like TheShishaDoctor kind of refused that the smell could actually be more than psychological with the "It's all psychological"-remark. Not worked up, just occasionally having a hard time expressing myself in English without coming off as a total douche

They changed flavors slightly or tobacco base. No mystery. The ketchup smell is a byproduct of the change.

Just like I said, you tell people it smells like ketchup, they'll smell it too. Most Americans don't realize that wintergreen and Root Beer are the same flavor/aroma. At first, you'll say "No, no. They're different...you're wrong." Then you'll smell it. You'll believe it...and You won't be able to forget it again. Non-Americans who haven't been raised around these flavors will instantly recognize their similarities. This was told to me by several flavoring chemists. I didn't believe it at first either. If you believe ketchup, you'll smell ketchup.

Wait a minute! Why am I defending the competition? Al Fakher is made with ketchup.

Just let it air out and if it still tastes like Ketchup than unfortunately you came across a bad batch. I hope you dont have a bad batch and all goes well.

I'm not questioning your perceptions of the experience, at all. You might hate the smell of gasoline, I might like it. Your perceptions aren't wrong. I hope you didn't think I was bagging on you. Its a real common problem right now. If you were sitting in your house with several of your friends and they kept asking what stinks like ketchup, and you guys went around trying to uncover the mystery of the ketchup smell, but didn't come to any conclusions and I walked in, not knowing what was happening and said "What smells like ketchup?" You might have a strange reaction to the question from my perspective. If you see what I mean. We didn't know that you didn't know this discussion has come up a lot and several people around here, other than yourself, are upset and a little sensitive to the topic. So, I for one, if I offended you, apologize.

oh no worries man not offended. im acclimating it now, theres like 3 inches of juice in my tub. by far wettest AF ive gotten. thanks for the help and hopes!
