Sanding Km Base Grommets.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I just bought a 36" red km amoura. It's pretty awesome and smokes like a dream. The only problem I have with it is the base grommet. To get the stem far enough in the base for it to be stable I have to work my wrist like a 13 year old boy. I probably gonna sand the grommet down a bit and I was curious if you guys have any techniques or do you just take a piece of sandpaper to that badboy.

Try wetting the grommet.
I've sanded my KM grommet down to about half, sandpaper wont do jack shit for you unless you want to wait about , no exxagerating, 10 hours for an inch.
Go to the hardware store and tell them you need t ofile down some rubber, theyll give you this metal file, overgrown nail file except more intense, gets the job done in 15-20.

That is a bit of an exaggeration because it took me about an hour maybe 30 min to get it right sanding it down. The only reason it feels like a long time is because your sitting there sanding rubber... Edited by newjacksm

it depends on the sandpaper you use. how fine is it? if its too fine it will take forever.

also, if it doesn't fit right, dont jam it in, it will only weaken your vase till it rips apart.

Use a box cutter to shave it off. It's a little dangerous so you definitely have to be careful though. After you cut away at it evenly, smooth it out with sandpaper. It works great!

Or, dip into the hookah juice and use that. just a few drops. Laboratories used to use glycerine as a lubricant and we all know hookah tobacco has that in it...and it doesn't evaporate.
