sheeshabum
I've seen photos from the old days these hookahs with what must be 8 or 9 feet length of hose long, and really thick too.How much does length of hose have an effect on suction or taste, coolness etc? sheeshabum
HubblyBubbly613
A nine foot hose, that sounds like long distance calling.
Sonthert
Yeah, I was told that restaurants in the Middle East in the old days would have a Jurak pipe with huge, long hoses sticking out of the walls where people tended the Pipe for you, behind the scenes. The thicker the hose, the lower the pressure drop, the better the hit! Yash got that part right, using radiator hoses for smoking!
gunsboy
I used to smoke Jurak back in highschool in Saudi Arabia and the hookah is actually setup outside the room by the guy who works at one of our classmates Villa. They used to setup like 4-5 of them outside, light them and then bring the hoses through an opening near the window. It was so rough and hard to smoke but it was a challange to cough so you would not look like a whimp. It is quite an experience but it is very enjoyable. You have to be a crackhead to enjoy that sh#t.
Lukasa
i was thinking of buying some vinyl hosing that was super thick and placing it OVER the thing where you would insert your hose. But honestly, a big thick c**k like tube... i dont think i'd like it
sheeshabum
Vinyl and (or) pvc is dangerous when it heats up. I had a long vinyl house that used to make me sick as a dog. Its been discussed here on the forum before the danger.

Does your normal hookah hose ever get hot? Nope. The bowl where the only heat is is far from the hose. I have never felt sick, or tasted anything out of the ordinary. Infact, I get far less taste when using my vinyl hose, because it doesn't absorb flavors like a normal hookah hose typically does. If you are worried about it, then you don't have to use it. Just know, I do and I love em and will never go back to regular hoses as long as I smoke

Cornellius
I tried a Vinly hoose sometime ago and it tasted like sh*t... I prefer good hooses with modedrate thickness and long enough to enjoy a smoke =) Mine actualy around 4 feet long. The lenght of hoose (marpuc) determines the filtering of flavour as well as poisonous gasses produced by nargile (CO2, tar, arsenic etc)

I'm sure the guys who make the hoses don't really sit around thinking "Gee, I what which be less harmful material to use, for the health of the smoker". Don't worry Brandon, I had only 12 posts once, too. We all did. Except for those people stuck at 11.

[/quote]Well, my experiences tell me that hoose (marpuç) filters as much as (if not more than) water. Once someone who was stupid enough not to watch his step, stepped on my hoose and damage its utmost outer layer after that time I had to watch thick black liquid dripping from a tiny crack covering almost whole hoose! There is another experience which made me think about what I do to my body (then I lit another bowl (lüle) and enjoyed it...) I used to have one of cheaper hooses and I had rust problem then replaced it with a traditional one which does not cause any rust problem. Then curiously I used a knife and cut open the whole hoose... it was covered with same rust but more with sticky black syrup... Both of those hooses had endured more than 2000 sessions and at the end I found them in this condition...Here is my two cents for the ferryman... Sonthert
Black, sticky stuff is likely to be a mixture of glycerine and rust or glycerine and non-water soluble muck (the stuff that builds up inside the shank and on jars). Most hoses have some black crap in them...over time all the hoses I've seen start getting black "bruises" on them that eventually soak through and then the hoses tears. I see what you are thinking, but I don;t believe that filter is the appropriate word as the majority of whats going on is just the vapor refluxing.
