LiquidKernel
So for my birthday BBQ this year, I wanted to change things up a bit. I normally use Japanese-made hookah coals for my hookah and the Kingsford briquettes for the grill. But I figured, why use two separate ones? The hookah places that my friend's dad owns use real coal to cook the food and use that same coal for the hookahs. Now the question... is there any type of pure coal I should look out for? thecyrax
Make sure it is 100% natural. I use Best of the West charcoals occasionally.Just be careful not to try to smoke with a partially lit coal (tastes like butt)Oh, and these seem to burn much hotter than the cocos I'm used to. Tom1
You can't use briquettes... the only charcoal that you can use is stuff that is completely untreated with zero chemicals. Stuff like natural wood clumps and pressed coconut husks.

Tom1
You'd be surprised who don't know that briquettes aren't ok. A lot of members have had good luck with "afire" coconut coals. They're a bit hard to find though.

I'll have to recommend afire coals as well, although really most natural coals will work... every once in a while though you'll get a bag of shitty charcoal that's not dense enough to smoke with, and no matter how you try they won't stay lit well. I meant locally! They are easy to find on Amazon, but the 18 lb bags can take a few weeks to ship.

I was hoping to get Lazzari's (which is what the hookah places I go to use), but there were none available.http://www.twotreesproducts.com/images/pro...lump_medium.gifThis is what I got. I'll try it out tomorrow.
