mattarios2
well cocos burn hotter than the CH coals imho. I use 2 cocos chopped in half so 4 halves for my mini phunnel. Lasts about 1.25 hours with a wind cover towards the end.
Bulldog_916
I always sprinkle my nakhla in there. Flavor is dead on every time and I dont waste shisha. I can never smoke through a whole phunnel of anything unless I sit for 5-6 hours and puff away and I cant do that lately.

Hojo
Tried this earlier with Double Apple. My goodness, I can't believe that all this time I have been packing it differently. The apple flavor was stronger, the anise was more full-bodied, and the clouds? Ohhhh, the clouds.

It's a small phunnel and I dont waste a TON of shisha or anything I just waste enough to where it gets annoying. Meh. Such is life.
mattarios2
What I have been doing lately (since i have 2 mini's) is packing phunnel A with one flavor, smoke it once, and then put it aside. Then the next day i pack phunnel B, smoke it and put it aside, the next day i can smoke either phunnel A or B. I smoke one of them lets say A, and then the next day i can either pack something new in phunnel A or smoke the rest of phunnel B.Or sometimes i just go through 2 or 3 rounds of coals in one night and smoke the whole thing, i could always do that too! no longer welcome
btw, it's not just the packing part, you need to get it all out in a plate or preferably a flat storage tupperware and spread it all out and break it apart, then you do that packing method
mattarios2
yeah helps with getting the heat to the bottom of the bowl i would assume.
Tikhman
I will say I'm sold on this! I've been packing mizo fairly light until now and was good, but with a heavy pack its just so much better.
momatik
So, in theory, this should work for all unwashed shisha then, right?I'm gonna try it on some Pharaoh's Zesty Orange and try to confirm.
mattarios2
i would think so momatik, let us know how it goes.
burT
so let me clear my boggling head right now. with this method of packing the shisha over the top of the bowl and the coals sitting right on top, it doesnt burn the shisha at all? I havent smoked nakhla in quite a while, and ive been smoking lucid tangiers lately..
no longer welcome
people ask that all the time, but no, i don't particularly like burning my sheesh and that's the way I do it. give it a shot
Barnaby
Normally I use an oyster fork to pole holes in my Tang, or sometimes a kabob skewer. Is that the same size holes everyone is using for Nakhla, or are you using toothpick size?
mattarios2
a kabob skewer is about the same size as the toothpick holes I make, because I have those heavy duty toothpicks, so they are pretty thick.

Eric brought up a great point when i was on the phone with him a while ago: tobacco conducts heat more efficiently than air does; that is, washed or unwashed, a more dense pack will lead to a more thorough, efficient, and complete cooking of the tobacco. ever since that day i've been packing my bowls a little heavier and the results are such that i will never go back to the sprinkle method...i can also only use phunnels - but i'm happy with the results. NimbleCow
Is this method for phunnels only? What is the translation holy grail Nakhla packing method for a non-phunnel?
Sonthert
Same as Tangiers...full, not sprinkled in, a good solid amount of tobacco.
