I got home today and a box with "Scalliwag Roberts" written on it was there. I knew what it was and I was excited! Maybe a bit too excited. As you'll see I took a pic of the unopened box and then I opened one end to expose some wrapping paper. So I turn it up to slide them out. Right after the wapping paper came out, out comes the wood and a crapload of shredded paper! sad.gif
I was pissed a whole 3 seconds because this wood is incredible!!!
I will be knocking these out real soon. A guy gave me a 10x16 storage building I have to take down to get it out of his backyard. So basically it's a lot of work but worth it. So I'm not sure when I will knock out the first batch.

That said I will let you guys decide which stick gets made into bowls first

You had wood mailed to you? Wouldn't one just go to one's local lumberyard or specialty shop?

Voted #1, nice piece

Who are these people? So far all I've heard is lawyers say that it's possible to illicit a confession by using enhanced interrogation. They say nothing of its legality. No interrogators have come forward saying "Look, torture works okay, and we need to keep doing it if we're going to prevent more 9/11's." Most of the ones that have come forward have been saying "Look, the torture method might work, but we've got other tactics that work as well, if not better than using enhanced interrogation. We're going to keep using those."

Think about it. If torture didn't work, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I vote third because its got some nice flame in it.

This olivewood is from Africa. Our lumberyards don't sell anything like that and the specialty shops charge a lot more than I can get it online.
Like the first ones I made the pictures don't do them justice. Plus you can only see one side of each in the pics.
I*think* Stuie and everyone that got one will agree that the wood is much nicer in person.
What I'm really excited about is that these pieces are so varied that we'll see a huge difference in these.

As I turn these I'm going to keep track of which bowl came from which stick and the sections they came from. It just seems like it may be interesting to look back on that.

that'd be cool that way you could line them all up in the same order so we could see how it turned out. Good thinking.

Actually yes. I made the change to the tips and they have a lot more flow. I'm needing to take some pics and post them on my website with pricing. PM me for more details

Will these be phunnel-style or standard bowls?

nvm, I'll search the old thread and find out. But I like the far right.

Maybe you could do a matching hose/bowl set from the same stock?

All the bowls work either way. I dunno about matching a set of them because I freehand them and I also go off of the wood pattern and try and make it how it seems would look the best.

You do these on a lathe I imagine? #3 will probably end up being awesome once you get down past the initial layer! I wish I had more opportunity for lathe work, pretty much limited to school shop class happy.gif way back when!

Yep, they are done on a lathe. I got a killer deal on a really nice lathe a couple of weeks back. I was using an extra the guy that makes handle parts for me had after he picked up a new one.
The one I picked up has a 2hp motor and will turn up to a 20" bowl. Powerful as hell smile.gif
