Narghile, Turkish Style

Recommended Posts

So we hear a great deal about Hookah in Egypt, thanks to KM and MZ and Thamesh and the like, and we hear a fair bit about the UAE, Syria, Saudi and Jordan, but where's the love for Turkey?

It's right here.

I picked these hoses up in a bazaar in Izmir last year, and they are the end all of hoses as far as I can tell. No ghosting, no kinking, and they've never been washed (leather). They have a freer draw than my Nammor, Razan and KM washable, as well as the rest of the junk I have. They're 92" stem to stern, with a 32" handle. That makes it the longest hose, let alone handle, I can find anywhere. The tip is glazed meerschaum, used also to make chess pieces and mined extensively in Turkey. They were $40 ($25 after bargaining) and I'd buy ten of them if I could find them again.

Feast your eyes:

I have one of those myself, love that they're huge plus very good draw. Some of the designs are a throwback to 80's sweaters though but there's usually so much choice that it doesn't matter.

That's a BEAUTIFUL hose. I'd pay $30 for one gladly. I want a longer hose and bigger handle so it's easier to pass in a large circle (think reclining lawn chair semicircle).

Wow! those are amazing!

I wish I was more into hookahs and the like when my mom went about 5 years ago... I could have had her get some nice things like this.

She did get a couple nice rugs!

One which is kinda hookah related; cause it has a coal burn on it now...

If we ever hang out you MUST bring those!!

Deal, Wade. You'll love 'em.

The funny thing is, everywhere I smoked in Turkey had hoses just like this (though not as ornate). I probably visited 25 cafes while I was there, and without exception they had awesome hoses. This is funny because when I asked where I could buy them, no one could tell me. I got the same response you'd get here if you went to a bowling alley and asked where you could buy a ball return.
