Tangiers Lucid Bad After First 2 Times Smoking It....

Recommended Posts

Ordered a few things from hookah john, which is awesome btw.

Anyways, i acclimated all my 2 Lucid and 1 regular tangiers flavors over night in 3 separate containers. I noticed the first few times smoking them were the shizzzz.... lots of flavor, smoke, and never was harsh...

Now after about a week or two, there is less taste, more harshness, and today it even tasted burnt.

I'm using a tangiers medium phunnel, I pack it till its even or about 2mm sticking above the bowl line. I dont push it down really, just lightly tap it. 3 lines of holes on the foil. 2 coco coals, sometimes 3.

The worse is probably Lucid [something] cherry. it tasted sooooo good the first few times, now I can't taste any of the 3 flavors i bought. Recently I been just acclimating my whole container about 1 hour before I smoke because if I don't, its not even smokeable (harsh). And it produces little to no flavor.

what am i missing?

Pack it tighter.

And you have a LOT of heat on there.

The only way I can do 3 coconut coals on a phunnel is to stand them on edge until they have burned down a bit (thank you whoever suggested this -- I tried it last night, and it rocks).

I have been smoking a lot of Tangiers the last couple of weeks, and what I have found is that when you have too much heat it gets harsh, has little to no flavor or a burnt flavor. When that happens its time to do something about the heat, and do it quick.

And why do you acclimate it so much?

As was told to me: it if smells good, smoke it.

if there's no flavor or burnt flavor - you either have too much heat or not enough tobacco...or maybe both.

trying packing more and use the same amount of coals...if it's still not good. pack the way you normally did and use less coals. and lastly, try packing more and use less coals.

just gotta experiment.

well i repacked it tight last night with lucid horchata (sp?) and it smoked well, not harsh but still not much flavor 2 coals, good smoke.

we get free utility at my apartment so i guess when i was acclimating it the first time the a/c was on. if its a humidity issue what's the way to fix it?

the last 3 times i tried to smoke kashmir cherry (acclimated for about 5-7 hours initially), 2 coals very very little smoke, tasted a little like alcohol, harsh as fack... then one time i let it sit out for an hour, a little better.

what gives... does everyone acclimate it?

It's been states before time and time again, Lucid needs no acclimation - OG does. You should be able to smoke it out of the bag. If it smells funny then I would suggest letting it 'acclimate' for a bit.

Are you stirring the shisha before packing it in? Remember that the juices drip down to the bottom, make sure you stir the shisha nicely before packing.

2 cocos works perfectly for me every time, give it a minute or two, if you continue to get no smoke, try to use a windcover - 3 cocos is probably heat overkill

3 cocos 4eva.

i even use 'em with a windscreen. I can always take one off, you know, but it takes a few minutes of wasted shisha to put one on the stove.

Even after you mix it, take a full scoop into the bottom of the container...

i didn't know that, i think john told me to acclimate the lucid's as well. that wouldn't explain why one time i didn't acclimate it for 1 hour (less harsh) when the other time not acclimating (remember this is extra acclimation) it has super harsh and tasted like vodka... or at least a hint.

weird but i'll try it with my next batch

yea for sure make sure you stir that up really well, I usually get a fork or just use my fingers and I stir it like crazy. Make sure you flip it as you stir and get the juices from the bottom of the container back onto the shisha. I've had similar low flavor sessions and I'm pretty sure it's cause after I acclimated I didn't stir it well and got some dry shisha in there.

Acclimate lucid too. It wont take as long but it does require a little (or so i'm told, i have never tried lucid)

Like evilded said, if it smells good smoke it. (after it's been opened a while, it always smells good when you open it for the first time)

Also, that is a LOT of heat!

I found that coco's are too hot for tangiers. They just burn hotter than other coals.

Also, you do need to pack it down. If you dont, you get little air pockets in the shisha that mess with it when you're smoking.

Eric said that once and I have been having better smokes since. You dont have to really pack it in there, just enough to minimize the air between the shisha.

I would say less heat and more holes.

Stirring/tobacco use. When you pack a bowl, you need to stir well and cut a rectangle out of the tobacco and transfer that whole rectangle, top to bottom into the bowl...not just scrape tobacco off the top. Flavor fading is usually caused by this. Some of the flavors like to float near the top of the tobacco...if you are only taking tobacco from the top of the bag/container, you are getting too much of those flavors and when you get lower down in the container, the flavor will get worse and worse. Especially cherry and citrus flavors.

This is good to know. That'd explain why the last 100g or so of lucid tasty peach doesn't have nearly the flavor the first 150g of it did.
