SilverK
Oooooookay, my inexperience and newness to hookah is clearly evident now that I've started to upgrade my kit. And let me tell you I'm focking pissed! Forgive me the long novel-length post...I'm just trying to explain it well so I don't have to come back and answer questions about what I'm doing/not doing. After reading reviews and getting some much appreciated PMs on the subject, I ordered this "quality" hose that came via UPS today: http://www.socialsmoke.com/item--Small-Nam...AMMORSMALL.htmlImagine my goofy excitement as I popped open my first online order of shisha and a good hose! I was happy as a clam at Christmas as I opened up my bargain priced goodies from socialsmoke.com !!! So I excitedly loaded up one of the new Starbuzz shisha (the much-awaited PINK) that I ordered with the hose. Oh joy!!! But this is where my unhappiness begins...this hose makes my shisha taste either incredibly WEAK or NOTHING like it's supposed to! What's even worse is that the damn hose makes the NEXT bowl of shisha taste like the PRIOR bowl! Even though I rinsed this "quality" hose between bowls! WTF??? This highly touted Nammor hose isn't (YET) working as well as the basic NON-WASHABLE hose I got with my Mya Bambino. :::mutter mutter:::have I wasted my money? Isn't Nammor a good brand of hose?So now after 3 frustrating attempts to smoke 3 different shishas (I'm stubborn and determined to figure this thing out) I'm humble (and needy) enough to post here because I obviously need tips on USING and/or CLEANING this handy new washable hose so that the flavor of the prior shisha is gone and the new bowl tastes like it's supposed to!!BTW I finally got rid of that "new hose taste" now that I've smoked with it 3 times. GROSS SHIT IS NEW HOSE TASTE!!! I should have just sucked up some coffee grounds in it before smoking out of it...how do YOU break in your new hoses so the flavors ring true and your yummy new shisha doesn't taste like plastic hose???Now that I've smoked (if you can call it that) 3 different shishas, how the hell do I clean this Nammor properly between sessions so the new bowl tastes like the shisha I'm smoking?? I'm sick of wasting my breath sucking on this damn thing!! And YES, I rinsed the hose between every bowl (and even DURING a bowl). Which is no easy feat considering the hose doesn't come apart and those fuzzy things on the ends can easily get wet. HOW THE HELL DO YOU RINSE THESE HOSES WITHOUT GETTING THE FUZZY THINGS WET??? A siphon? Should hose cleaning really be this complicated??!! I mean really, how complicated can it be to rinse a friggin hose??Pray tell WHAT am I doing wrong? Am I just impatient? Is this normal when you get a new hose, until you break it in? My Mya hose has NEVER tasted like the bowl I smoked before. But that hose WAS getting funky and I got a gritty feeling. Ugh.PLEASE HELP ME BE HAPPY WITH MY NAMMOR HOSE!! (I will be eternally grateful if I can enjoy all my new Starbuzz tins!!)I really hope I don't have to return this hose! BTW, socialsmoke.com had a great deal on the 100g tins of SB and I took advantage of my new member 15% discount. Go there if you haven't ordered from them yet! Ya get a great 15% discount and free shipping Edited May 9, 2009 by SilverK
Sherwood
One of my Nammors had an awful plasticky taste.I filled a large mixing bowl with soap, water and lemon juice, set up a siphon, and siphoned all the water through it into the drain on my dishwasher. It worked a treat. No more new hose taste, and no ghosting since. I'd say give that a try. Also, don't worry about getting the sweatbands wet. Thy dry out just fine. liquidglass
My new nammors both had a strong plastic taste, nothing would clean the taste out. So I just smoked strong flavors with them, then rinsed and they were good to go.Coffee flavors, lemon mintpink grapefruitetc anything that assaults your nose will clean your hose by smoking it. Victim026
After going through a few different washable hoses my suggestion would be to smoke 3-4 bowls of orange to break in the hose. It cleans it out well and makes it taste nice and fresh without all the plasticy taste.
Stuie
When I get a new Nammor, I wash it out with hot water and lemon juice. Smoke a bowl and good to go.

Vampy6997
Plastic is treated with a chemical. Plastic is also porous, so that "plastic" taste might go away with more stringent cleaning techniques. I'd say 3 good washes before using it, and after washing, check to see before even starting up the bowl... Problems with plastic stuff That article probably isn't complete. This being said, you'll want to clean out the hose in the way previously mentioned, with a siphon, some lemon extract and baking soda. I've discussed with several people back in 2003, the problems with plastics (they thought I was on something to even care), a bit before health studies started getting made overly-publicized (in this case over publication isn't a bad thing). Not everything plastic has biosphenol A on it, and plastic's not the only thing that BPA is on/in. Too much contact (direct or indirect) with any heavy metals or contaminants and/or chemicals, especially the same sort of chemicals, can also lead to autoimmune diseases, which usually stick around even after the body has cleansed the impurity out. My guess (just hypothesis) is all the contaminants we're exposed to in hookah smoking (specifically from the coal and shisha itself) doesn't compare a bit to the damage that cr@p put in/on chemically treated products can cause. All that being said, I hate the taste of plastic as much as the next person (or maybe even more), but prefer to wash my hose regularly, so....I'll be receiving the nammor, shisha, bambino tomorrow! Anywho...This was just information, so you know why you're getting that plastic taste. I had a coffee pot that no amount of cleaning got the plastic taste out of it. It was horrible, and I ended up trashing it.
newjacksm
I had that problem with the Razan/Nammor hose. A quick fix is lemon/lime juice and swirl it around in there for full 2-3 min and then drain the hose out with water... You should be good. And thanks to all of you I did this and the plastic taste is all gone. I poured store-bought lemon juice into the mouthpiece end (with the mouthpiece removed), let it sit in there for a minute, and then ran the other end of the hose through the top rack of my dishwasher for draining. Then I followed it by running water through it for 5 minutes, and then another dose of lemon juice, then a quick rinse again. My new hose is perfect now...AND the "ghosting" is gone! I'm really sorry to hear that others have had this problem for a week or longer. It's horrible, and I wouldn't even be using my new hose if it still tasted like plastic. I'd be back on my original Mya hose! The lemon juice DOES work. Thankfully! Edited May 10, 2009 by SilverK

I've used it with my vase and stem to clean things up well. Just beware: baking soda and lemon FIZZ UP big-time. I got the suggestion from the people who helped me here. Take a bottle with some lemon juice, throw in some baking soda and let it get settled. Then pour it into the hose. Jiggle it around back and forth in the hose for a couple minutes. Then stick it under the faucet, with the other end in the dishwasher, and run clear water through it for a few minutes.I really think that will work. I can't imagine my hose is much different than yours. Besides, the original Mya hose doesn't hit NEAR as well as the new one you bought. Hmmmm...I didn't measure so I'll guesstimate based on my years as a baking fiend. Your mileage may vary based on how long your hose is okay? Ya don't want to flood your hose... Get a LARGE measuring cup with a pouring spout (if possible)Pour in about 1/2 cup of lemon juice and add 1/8 baking sodaLet it fizzle up (it will overflow if your cup is too small) and make sure there aren't any clumps in thereOnce it settles dump the mix in the big end of your hose and then hold both ends of the hose and waggle it around for a few minutes (but be SURE you let the fizz die down or you'll have a geyser spurting out of your hose)Then stick one end in a place you can drain your hose wellThen run a bunch of water through it to get all that stuff outThat's about the ratio I've used to clean my vase, hope it works perfectly for you! You can honor my suggestion by posting pictures of yourself waggling your lemon juice filled hose okay?

Sonthert
Transient flavors, AKA ghosting is caused because of two possibilities, either there is a residue that binds flavors to it (which you seem to have removed) or there are flavor components which aren't soluble in water. In the second case, you have to introduce a better solvent or pH balance to neutralize them and make them partially water soluble. Pink smelled somewhat insoluble in water. Don't ask me how I can do it by its smell...I'm gifted Some insoluble components actually act like solvents themselves, benzaldehyde (AKA Cherry/Amaretto flavor) comes to mind. So, it can stick to the hose and then stick other chemicals to itself, causing icky transient flavor problems.P.S. If thats a novel post..mine must be...trilogies? P.P.S. Your CAPS lock key seems to be sticking. Mountain Dew made mine do that too.
