Best Screen Ever!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I trucked my hookah over to a house so we could smoke, and I FORGOT to bring extra foil. After the first bowl we manage to salvage the foil well enough to make it last a second bowl. But after bowl two the foil was done for. It's past 2 am. There is nowhere to get foil at 2 am. So I pulled out my trusty Kershaw RAM and went to work on a Keystone Light (readily available at this house) can.

Behold.

A few steps into the process:

After hole punching:

Props to the guys at Kershaw for hooking me up.

On the Hookah:

It works!

And the keystone can just before I called the bowl (Time of Death: 3:22 am)

i hope you made sure there was no plastic inside of the can ... I was told there are some amounts of plastic in all beer cans, don't know if that is true.

correct. aluminum beverage cans are lined with a type of polymer on the inside to prevent rusting or other forms of oxidation.

+1 to the polymer on the inside of the cans... while you might not see any immediate effects, your offspring miight come out with an extra arm, or eyeball

If you're looking for a cheap way to make a screen, I would stick to canned vegetable tops rather than aluminum beverage cans

My dad had a 6-pack of Billy Beer in the garage from back in the day. They must not have done that back then because 2 or 3 of the cans were rusted through.

Also, I would be worried about heating up and smoking the coloring they used on the can. Can't image sucking in burning die/color/whatever they use could be healthy...then again you are drinking keystone. I used to love keystone until I found budlight.

I don't see it being possible to get a good seal from this either.

Of all the beer cans to use, keystone is the worst.

Not only do you have to drink it first (or kill the lawn or scar the concrete if you pour it out), but keystones big marketing thing is that their cans have a special lining.

I remember when it first came out; the slogan was something along the lines of " Tastes like (shitty) beer in a bottle!"

I just dig through the pantry until I find some Hostess Ding Dongs in their special foil wrapper.

well everyone beat me to the punch I heard smoking through cans is toxic

I have seen this posted around here before, just the paint from the can is pretty toxic, let alone if there is plastic lining in the can.

IMO foil works best, its cheap too plus you dont need to drink the keystone. Although for a few bucks you can have a great night with it.

I drink quite literally over a gallon of either Keystone or Natty Light every week. Going to a party school, we have to find a certain way of accommodating our lifestyle and that means sacrificing taste wink.gif. We just suck it up and pound the shitty beer like there's no tomorrow!

Anyway, I would be worried about both aspects that have been mentioned. Independently, the polymers and the paint is bad enough but together, that's one helluva cocktail of disaster. Cease the use of aluminum cans. I buy a pack of pre cut foils not for everyday use but as a backup in case I forget real foil. One of those packs will last me 6 months cause I hardly forget biggrin.gif

the problem was that I was at a house with no foil at way too late at night. even if I had spare foil at home (which I did) it wouldn't be there with me.

NEW IDEA!!! I will store spare foil between the base cover and base of my hookah! should be able to fit more than enough with no problem.
