AD1985
I'm still no hookah pro but I have seen pictures of a few Mya Saray and Khalil Mamoon hookahs. The people I know who have a hookah do not have anything I've seen online. So I am think hookah products are not as "standardized" as other products (cars etc). Would you guys say most people have some generic hookahs? What do most hookah bars use?
ilikemyusername
well with as many people that come on here and talk about thier pumpkin, i'm gonna say ... i see alot of generic hookahs, but thats not the point, just because somethings not a km, doesn't mean its not a good pipe. alibaba
I have a generic hookah, bought it from a persian supermarket . The thing smokes great, tons of airflow. I would say it's on par with the pipes I've smoked in lounges. But then i can't say if those weren't generics either.I think the most essential characteristic of a hookah is how airtight it is, and the diameter of the stem. Anything else is just looks IMO.IMO, the 3rd most essential characteristic of a good hookah is a WIDE BASE so the damn thing doesn't tip over

hookah hippie
To answer your question when I see my friends hookahs they are usually some form of a chinese made piece o junkBut, I have seen non forum members with KMs as well as excellent no name hookahs
Giant Ninja Robot
I havent really smoked with almost anyone outside of the forum or friends smoking from my setups. One friend had a ripoff stargate that kinda sucked. And then a generic egyptian that kinda sucked. Name isn't everything but it helps to have a proven product to choose. mustang_steve
Even the worst chinese hookah can be made into a fine smoking machine, if you take the time to fix the problems:screw-in stem is leaky....teflon threadsealing tape.hose ports/purge valve leaky at the threads....same fixpurge valve acting up.....take the bead out and go find a ball bearing at a hardware store the right size, or use a 6mm airsoft round if it fits.Threaded base not sealing? More threadseal tape on the malre threaded part.If you keep a roll of teflon threadseal tape around, almost any hookah can become a fine smoking device. It may not be the optimal answer, but for those on a tight budget...it's simply the best option. A roll of teflon threadseal tape is about a dollar for more than you will ever need on a single hookah.
Sherwood
My initial Egyptian no name is a great pipe. I'd still be using it, if the diameter of the hose port and purge valve was about twice as big.As it is, though, it was the one that got me started. Bookworm
I'm pretty sure my local bar uses MZ, but I'd need to check (the hose ports and purge valves look the same).I have a poor no name hookah but it got me started as well!
EggNogAdam
Good stuff to know, Mustang-Steve!I am pretty sure that I was gifted a generic hookah. My cobra-hose is cracked as hell on the decorative mouthpiece. The gaskets for the hose and for the bowl are thin and seem to not seal all the way. The base... the base doesn't hold the shaft evenly. The whole setup rocks on top of the base. So... I filled the vase 2 weeks ago and sealed the vase to the pipe with electrical tape. Then I gave 2 layers of electrical tape to all of the gaskets and put the thing back together. Now the only place that leaks is a spot on the stem where there is some solder missing. It's an interesting device to say the least. After seeing some of the awesome rigs I can buy online I have been seriously considering buying a completely new system.I'm going to 1) go buy some Airsoft BB's and 2) get some of that seal tape you were talking about, Mustang. Also, the guy that bought my this hookah has a narghile that came from Turkey so I am pretty sure it's a generic. His has a great seal and we always get a good session out of it!-eggnogadam-
boludo
I would say that most hookahs out there are generic hookahs. I have two KM, a Mya and a Chinese screw on hookah, and the one I use the most is the Chinese screw on. It is 100% air tight, so no leaks. Smokes great and it is very easy to clean
scratchy
My first smoke was out of a chinese, my first owned was a chinese and my current pipe is a chinese(albeit) a Mya.IMHO, they all smoke the same, with just a few minor issues between them.I've found the worst problem with chinese is that they just don't last.My previous chinese, I did extensive mods too and it's smoked fuckintastic. Thicker downstem, bore out the stem and hose port and a few other mods. It smoked just as good as my buddies KM. Too bad it fell apart after 4 months

antouwan
the only reason i would tell people online to buy a km or a nour or something is because when you buy something online and you can't see or judge for yourself if the product is good or not, you have to have some type of indicator. buying a km or mz or nour or something, the person knows that they will likely receive something that works well and is durable. imo, that's what's so 'great' about brand name pipes, they're somewhat reliable/dependable. i have 2 no name leb pipes that smoke great and had a no name egyptian that i sold to a buddy of mine that was fantastic. i get them now because i really like the things and they look hella sexy, as well as being built relatively well.
