TheShishaDoctor
QUOTE (mustang_steve @ May 13 2009, 12:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>QUOTE (NimbleCow @ May 13 2009, 06:50 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Can someone school me on the airflow of a bowl like this (and even more so, a phunnel). Why doesn't the hot air just go right through the foil and into the holes in the glass bowl? It seems like that would be the closest path and the one of least resistance? And for a phunnel--wouldn't the hot air just go right down from the foil straight down the tube of the phunnel opening? Doesn't the hot air have to pass by the shisha to heat it/produce vapor?the heat of the coals distributes to the bowl via the foil, this causes the shisha to heat up, producing vapors....when you pull, the vapors are brought into the air outlet (the center hole for a phunnel, or side holes for this design). edit: this is why it's better to have a slow-starting bowl over a really fast one...as the bowl heats up, the temperatures the shisha is exposed to goes up, thus the risk of burning is higher.+
Sonthert
Hot air is irrelevant. Saying convection is the main heat transfer mechanism is silly. I'm looking at it, while I see the idea of the phunnel there, its not a rip-off like the numerous other ones on the market. I assume its hollow on the underside...it seems like a good idea, except, how do you get the foil nearly flush with the tobacco? Do you cover the holes with tobacco? If so, is there a problem with burn-on on the inside of the holes? I think I like it...I don;t know about the glass.
Santino
Okay we're up and running with production, we're gearing a website, but for forum members (and seriously.. ONLY forum members for now) these are coming readily available. by the weekend i'll have pictures of the full line. The glass hookah / glass tips are now available as well, as well as a few other styles of bowls, the skull crown (a giant skull bowl with the crown at the top, thing is like 10" tall.) and a one coal bowl.. holds about 30 grams at most.. uses one coal. Quick 30 minute puffer. As far as a glass screen.. we're always playing with it, I swear we've gone through 20 different designs, and everytime we all agree that foil just works better. Theres always something we're playing with.. though. As far as the hole concern, I'd recommend covering the holes absolutely. As Tangiers is my smoke of choice, that was one thing I addressed the day we started developing this. In order to allow airflow through but to pack the tobacco snuggly they have an upward "lift" so to speak. Also they clean very easily.. that was the point with the design at core, was to make a glass bowl without some object making it difficult to clean around.. this being just a dish can be wiped clean with a cloth or sponge, and any burn on that occurs on the inside has yet to be seen from any of my test bowls (thus far.) Lemon juice does go a long way from my experiences with MNH's bowls though
Sherwood
Well my order is placed, and my hopes are way up. Don't turn that dial.

Tyler
I put in a request for a very complicated bowl that he said he was gonna make for me, I hope I'm not taking up too much of his time -- or better yet -- that he's actually working on it. It could quite possibly be the best bowl. Ever.
