nuschultz
I have heard bad things about the japanese easy lights, such as explosions on lighting. Find some 3 kings.
Smashraj84
I think you're talking about Golden QLs.
MR Bubble
Good question. The Easy lights aren't quick lighting. They need lots of heat from a stove or fire. I tend to prefer Japanese coals, but the Easy Light aren't the really good ones. Don't get me wrong, I've smoked them before, but only AFTER I've had the Golden and Abu Hitham (or whatever they are) and found them to be inferior to the good stuff. They impart a little "off taste" but they are still OK . I would suggest getting a smaller supply of them to see how you think. I know some places sell them by the stick (4 squares of them) which would be a good sample. I guess it all comes down to personal tastes. 3 Kings happen to be my favorite quick-light coal. I feel the temperature is almost perfect (I use one disc, broken into 4 pieces per standard Egyptian bowl with foil) and they impart the smallest amount of taste for a QL. I guess if I had to choose between the two for a year (with no consideration for convenience) it would be a hard pick. I'll need to get another supply of the Easy lights in to compare again, but I may tend to side with them. Tough decision. I know this doesn't help much, but it's just more of the ramblings of Bubble again, or Random Bubbles. MR Bubble

Lukasa
I use 3 Kings brand. 1 time my local shop gave me a free roll of, what i thought to be 3 kings, but it was an inferior brand that popped and broke all over my carpet, burning many holes. 3 kings 4 lyfe baby. Ps, are the natural coals that require stove lighting any good?
Sonthert
I never have any problems with Japanese coals exploding. I use them all the time. I have had problems with gunpowder coals like 3 kings flaring up after they were lit. I have, on the other hand, never used Three Kings, although I own the DVD. I am not a big George Clooney fan, but I love Ice Cube...I own all of his CDs, practically. I've seen the movie a couple of times, but never been able to sit down and just watch it.Wait...I digress...Another problem is crummy Chinese charcoal that is made to look Japanese. People think they are Japanese and find how poor they are, and assume all Japanese coals are that way...in fact even among Japanese coals, there are varying degrees of quality. A bar of Abu Hitham or Al-Saif coals are 18g while a bar of Canary Japanese coals are 14g., even though they have the same physical dimensions and are sold for the same amount wholesale. Sonthert
P.S. Red Lion charcoal are the best Chinese Coals I have used to this point.
