Corroded Then Snapped. What To Buy?

Recommended Posts

I picked up a hookah from a local smoke shop and all the grommets got lost over a few months. i was smoking it the other day and one of the threaded parts snapped in half. i wasn't cleaning it enough i'm sure. what type of hookah should i buy? i think myas are really good quality right? something that is stainless steel and won't corrode on me? maybe something that is just one long stem that doesn't come apart? please throw some suggestions at me. thanks

am i right to think myas are very well made? will i face problems with corrosion and have it snap in 2 within a year? i was just looking at the mya staff...

get it! i think it is one of the best looking hookahs (although def. out of my price range), kinda modern and traditional at the same time, plus it has the nicest vase out of any of the non-crystal myas.

What are you looking for in your hookah?

not too tall, doesn't tip over, 3/4 hoses, doesn't fall apart, doesn't have chrome paint that just chips off...

right now its btwn the mya vortex 3 hose and the mya staff 3 hose i like the staff base better but i just read its a 'ticking timebomb'

I've got a vortex, had it for about 6 months. So far it's treated me well, very sturdy base, hasn't tipped over even around drunk people. As far as smokability, I hear all myas are equally great.

If you're looking for a good smoker that's sturdy and easy to clean your best bet is probably an MZ. They're all stainless and quite consistent. Socialsmoke has a good many of them, quite affordable too. Myas smoke well and are built very well, but they aren't as easy to clean as MZ's in my experience. Keeping an MZ clean is really just stupid simple; rinse it out when you're done with the night's smoking and it won't ghost... hit it real quick with a brush and a touch of alcohol and it'll taste better than new, and because it doesn't disassemble like myas the brushing is quick, easy, and a lot more effective.

Not a fan. A KM tri-metal is durable. I have a KM that is at least 12 years old.

the tri metal is a great hookah to get if your looking for a long lasting hookah, can get a sweet deal on it 2 through mnhookah

MZ is Magdy Zidan. HookahJohn has a few of them, for one.

the mz's do look pretty nice. i could be wrong but it doesn't look like the hose holes on the base are detachable. that caused me a whole lot of trouble on my last hookah where i couldn't get the ball bearings out.

are mya's stainless steel? or am i completely wrong on that?

I just purchased a KM Tri-Metal, should be here in few days. But I have always enjoyed Egyptian Hookahs. I tried two different MYA's and did not like them. It all depends on what and how you smoke.

Most myas are chromed brass I do believe. But no, the MZ's don't disassemble, and don't have auto-seals... which IMO is a good thing. Auto-seals limit the airflow you'll get from a hookah somewhat, and require maintenance/replacement sometimes. If those you smoke with are severely handicapped (physically or mentally) then I'd say get something with an auto-seal... otherwise they should be able to cover. My group has no troubles even while watching a sports game and drinking. wink.gif

i'm really looking for build quality over smoke quality. i know i shouldn't be but i'm more concerned with it breaking within a year. i'm sure whatever i get i'll figure out how to get the flavor and smoke that i'm looking for.

well thats interesting, does that mean if the chrome comes off it'll turn into a mess?

the autoseal was a giant pain in my ass. but i think i'll stick with it just so i don't have to deal with telling people to cover their hose.

Not much of a concern really. They did a good job of it, I've had my QT for oh... 6 months or so now and it's been through some rough use with no chipping of the finish that I've noticed. Even if it did chip eventually, and I don't recall anyone reporting that as an issue, it's nothing to worry about; a lot of hookahs are plain brass to begin with and work great.

i was looking for the same things in a hookah when i bought my vortex. it's been great. doesn't tip, screws into the vase (so a drunk newb can't pick it up by the stem and drop the vase), seals and smokes great, i've had no issues with corrosion or anything with minimal maintenance. i bought a single hose and since converted it to a dually with the autoseals. haven't had a problem with those, either. the only thing that sucks about it out of the box is the hose. it's hard to pull and rusts and its not washable. got some nammor hoses and now it's fantastic.

i own 4-5 KM's used to own an MZ, own 4-5 Myas, maybe more. my KM tri metal is my go to pipe. ive smoked that thing for over 1 1/2 years so far and it still smokes like the day i got it.
