Mush, why not just make your lounge an outdoor lounge. Just use the building to house the hookahs, supplies, and set up and such, then just have a big outdoor patio type thing for the smoking?
QUOTE (Niolet and Locke)
The bill, which passed 62-56, prohibits smoking inside bars and restaurants, but doesn't affect outside areas of those businesses. The bill makes an exception for cigar bars, although bars could not start selling cigars to skirt the ban.

Also, how the hell did cigar bars get exempt from this law and not hookah bars?!?!? From the sounds of it, the reason for the ban is to improve health conditions...hookah second hand smoke is much better than cigar smoke. I work at a local restaurant/bar and every time someone lights up a cigar, I seriously have to hold my breathe when walking past it to keep from gagging most of the time. People on campus are constantly telling me how much they enjoy the smell coming from my hookah. Hell, the other night, I was smoking outside and accidently blew my entire smoke cloud in the face of the guy sitting next to me. I said "Sorry about that, didn't mean to" and his response was "Actually, I enjoyed that."

I seriously loathe ciggs, but come on, the definitions of the law seem a bit bullshitty to me.

Just thought I would post my post in the other thread here as well since it is the same topic. I originally posted this in the news thread.

Not trying to sound like a conspiracy nut, but if the cigar bars there are like the cigar bars here, they tend to be full of the wealthier fellows of the city. Most places are loathe to piss of their wealthy elite.

We should orgonize a big group of people to go stage a sit-in with our hookahs infront of their offices

now we wait. 2 of the members of the house are trying to put a rider on another bill to get me an exemption. it MAY even work. I'll keep you all informed.

Rawk on smile.gif I'd sent a comment to Mr. Burr about it a few days ago, with reasoning: families aren't going to your hookah lounge...kids aren't even going to be going in there. How the hell would there be such a blanket over it but not cigar shops....furthermore, it makes sense for real restaurants and public places where innocent, un-involved, non-smokers would be, but if people are going somewhere with the intention to smoke...why would they care if anyone around them is smoking?

The logic with what was passed is not fully there...

*boggled*

Mush - if you need to have some sort of hookah sit-in event at your bar to show these politicians what's up - let us know. I'm sure there are enough of us within a few hours drive that would come down and lend support.

Maybe if you just invited people in to see what hookah is all about and help them get informed!

I'd go to a sit in. I'm only an hour away.

Sucks to hear. That's ridiculous that they would allow cigar lounges but not hookah. Hope it all works out for you.

You haven't been watching the government for very long have you. Nothing they do is can be labeled "ridiculous" anymore, it's all just SOP.

Yeah, the gov't is getting quite the power trip, trying to make sure we're all zombies for their every beck and call.

Whatever happened to grandfather clauses? Why is it that they feel compelled to pass a law and put companies out of business? They used to just put a stop to new ones and let the old ones fade away.

Not sure about American Grandfather rights/laws but when the smoking ban came into practice in the uk (Nationwide) There were no grandfather/existing business rights.

It was ban period. Full stop & .

Apart from the houses of parlament... And any Royal palace.

Good innit.
