Namenone
Does anyone know the rough ratios for QL in relation to other coals? For example 1 QL roughly 2 cocos heat etc. I remember eric was saying something along those lines and would just like to know what others think?(Wanted to know for my Glass jet phunnell, got no cocos' only QL for tangiers)
delSol_si
I used 3K QLs a long time ago. I use Tangiers Phunnel only. I would start with 2, then take it to 3 after like 20 min or so, then rotate between 2 and 3 for the rest of the session, usually end up going through about 4, maybe 5 coals in a session (about 1-1.5 hours). Now I use John's CH natural QLs and start with 3, after about 30 min, light another, place it on in like another 10-15 min, then just keep lighting more as they older ones die out. Usually keep 3 big coals or 4-5 small coals on at a time. Usually will go through about 7-8 coals in a session lasting about 1-1.5 hours. BUT, keep in mind, 3K's usually come out to like $0.25 a coal, where as John's CH natural QLs are around $0.12 a coal. So, in the end, I will probably be spending the same amount on coals per bowl, but the CH coals don't taste like shit and they don't run as big of chance of burning the shisha, and its easier to manage the heat with the CH coals.Oh, and I use the cheapest, shittiest foil I can find, only one layer. Great Value (Walmart) and Always Save (dollar store) brands come to mind. And I use the tea light mod, not sure if that makes a difference.Damnit, I just reread your post and realized this doesn't really have much to do with what you are asking, especially since I smoke AF, Nahkla, and Layalina, sorry. I am going to leave it up anyway just because it took awhile to type it all. Edited May 17, 2009 by delSol_si
Namenone
Wow thanks for that very informative post! Hmm, My Jet phunnell is about 7cm i think (rough estimate), So 3-4 QL which are 33mm will take up a LOT of space, You sure that wont burn my shisha? ryno
For a glass phunnel, I'd start with 3 halves in a triangle and go from there.
Arcane
i've had up to 4 3/4 CH QLs on my MNH glass mini phunnel...did that for 3 weeks straight. that sucker is still in one piece.actually, it started off with 4 CH QLs hanging off the edge...then when they burned down a bit...they'd get pushed closer to the middle. Hmm, My Jet phunnell is about 7cm i think (rough estimate), So 3-4 QL which are 33mm will take up a LOT of space, You sure that wont burn my shisha? No problem, I hope it helps. I don't know if it will burn or not, I have never used one of those Jet Phunnels before. I would assume no, but don't quote me on that. I rarely ever burn shisha myself. Just don't pack it above the rim. I used to load the shit in there well above the rim because I saw a few people on youtube do it (John being one) and I thought it was the right way, then it started burning the shit out of all my shisha, so I quit. Not I load it just a tiny bit below the rim and it doesn't burn it anymore. Just manager your heat, if the smoke starts getting a bit harsh, clear your vase out and take a hit, if its still harsh, you are probably about to burn your shisha. Take all the coals off, blow the ash off the bowl and put them back on after ashing them, except leave one of. Basically I just add coals if the smoke sucks, take them away if it starts getting harsh. The numbers I gave you are just what works great for me just about every time. If they work for you, awesome, if they don't, you may have to find your own method. And, if you burn you shisha, nbd anyway, just scrape the burnt shit out and replace the baccy with new stuff, usually you won't burn the entire bowl, just the top layer. I started smoking about 2-3 years ago or so, but only smoked like 4-5 times then quit. I didn't start regularly smoking until about 4-5 months ago (basically a couple weeks after I joined the forums. Sorry for giving you info you probably already know, I know it is annoying. And thanks for not biting my head off either, lol. Let me know how your session goes, I'd like to hear your outcome. Oh, and if you get the chance and haven't done it already, seriously try some Nahkla Mizo Grape, it is amazing! That stuff really f's me up! I don't smoke ciggs though either.I also want to clarify that I am not trying to say hookah John is doing it wrong or anyone else who does it that way, I am just saying it doesn't work for me.
