Smoking, In General.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I quit smoking cigarettes (and (JD EDIT) I can't read the rules(/JD EDIT), BTW) about 10 years ago. Ever since then, after getting over the physical withdrawls from tobacco, I’ve had a consistent urge to smoke something. ANYTHING! Just something that I can puff on and either inhale or not. I’m not looking to get DELETED and don’t want to become addicted to tobacco again. I only want to find something that I can put in a pipe or roll up into a cigarette that I can satisfy the urge to puff that doesn’t taste like smoking hay or something. Believe it or not, I only recently concluded that my urge to smoke might be also be the cause of the unease and constant “I WANT A CIGARETTE!!!” attitude all this time. Especially after the usual time that I used to smoke. Like a meal, coffee, sex. You get the idea.

I’ve just ordered a sample pack of herbal smoke and a pipe and I’ll see how that goes. In my research, I ran across this Soex Shisha hookah smokes and was wondering if it could be smoked in a regular tobacco pipe. How does it taste? Harsh? Satisfying? Harmful? What would you suggest I try to fulfill this overwhelming urge to smoke something that doesn’t have tobacco in it and is legal? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance and thanks for this forum to help people.

Kindest regards,

Brett Bagley

Read the rules.

I can't decide if this is spam or not... Looks suspiciouslly like the 'healty spam' or 'anti smoking spam' we sometimes get.

Either way a 7 day ban. READ THE RULES

Goodnight...........

If he ever comes back:

You won't have any luck smoking herbal hookah mix in a briar pipe.

You might want to look into e-cigarettes. Search youtube for some videos. Basically it's a little electronic piece that is shaped like a cigarette that atomizes liquid nicotine and produces a vapor.

The urge is (in my experience) both physical and mental (and by that I mean the act of smoking, as well as the chemicals including nicotine). I recently had to break down and buy some more Skoal after quitting for a while. While the act of chewing is very addicting, this can only be minorly made up for by chewing gum or sucking on candy. Even after quitting for a while (granted not 10 years) the chemicals are very addicting as well (beyond the obvious). I have never had nicotine dependency or such (even when I maxed out at a pack a day over the summers while working) but the mental dependency on the chemicals is clear to me. I was writing 18 pages for a history paper last weekend and MY OH MY did the can of Skoal boost my productivity literally 100 fold. So yes and no to the question of "just inhaling and exhaling" being the addiction. In my experience it is part of it, but not the whole equation.

However, I can normally get by just fine without it, I rarely have to write 18 page papers so meh.

EDIT: I also think different substances work differently. For example, cigarettes for me were always a break from work. Chewing was always a "during-work" kind of thing, hookah is completely about relaxation and productivity after smoking hookah is almost nill. This is probably more of a mental thing than a physical one (though the act of hookah is relaxing in nature being not a quick 5-minute smoke kind of thing like a cigarette). Edited by Vladimir

Edited for adding question numbers:

1) Yes. That's the only way to smoke it in fact.
2) A slight bit of flavor, with a slight chemically or earthy underdone. I personally think it has a taste of burnt rubber.
3) Not so much harsh as gross.
4) Yes and no. For me as a shisha-tobacco smoker, smoking this herbal stuff isn't great. If you are dieing to smoke on something that won't make you gag or die, this stuff will work.
5) Short term: no. Long term: nobody knows yet, we've only been smoking herbal shisha (made from sugar cane bagasse) for a few years as a shisha tobacco replacement.
6) There are a few other brands of herbal tobacco you can try. I've heard Hydro Herbal is taking off and has some pretty good flavors. Another one I've heard good things about is Scalliwags Herbal Shisha. You can get it from MNHookah.

One thing to consider is whether smoking herbal shisha is that much better than smoking tobacco. They are both plant matter, and both produce all kinds of chemicals when smoked. I fear that you are assuming the safety of the hookah far too easily. Don't let the water chamber fool you... you are still taking a risk by smoking hookah. Most people on these forums have accepted this risk factor, and not too many people believe they are risk free.

Hopefully that helps to clear some things up. Good luck.

just buy a nice hookah man that you can come home to after a long day at work and relax and smoke while watching a movie man. This way you dont constantly have somthing on you to smoke.

nicotine is a stimulant, so *suprise* its gonna make you more awake, aware, and whats nots. hookah doesnt have much nicotine in it compared to chewing, so thats why you felt such a surge, not necessasarily because you were addicted.

Nah its more than that, cigs never promote that same feeling either, no matter how many (or few) I smoke. I think it is more akin to Pavlov's dogs. I work my butt off when I have a dip in my mouth, so I put one in and I expect to be working hard (or in the shower, shower dips are glorious).

EDIT: Also stimulants are great for lots of things, writing a senior research paper is not one of them. I have ADD, stimulants are not what I would generally speaking require when trying to sit down and write a paper happy.gif. Edited by Vladimir

I just read some of the hidden comments.

I would consider myself the most un-anal guy around here when it comes to bans. Oh well. That can soon effing change.

Edited to ADD. The original poster's FIRST post was very much in line with a form on spamming that we get some the health nuts.
Seriously. Hence why this thread went the way it did.

Still, that's what you get for trying.

Cheers

Anal was the wrong word to use.

My Posts have been deleted and this one edited.

I'm now on vacation for a week (Thanks to that lovely English chap JD). I might actually take time to read the rules.

I was just upset that you assumed I didn't read the rules when I had read them like 3 or 4 times. Like I had said before, it was an accidental mistake, not intentional. I knew NH and NHT are against the rules, just didn't know the devise was such. Drabin was actually the one being anal now that I went back and read it. Its in the past anyway. Sorry JD!
