Why Molasses Or Honey? I've Got Something Better

Recommended Posts

I've been adding honey and molasses to my tobaccos to moisten them up a bit. But this time, I picked up some corn syrup. I added some to my nakhla, and it seems to be working great. I prefer it because it doesn't leave a distinct taste like honey or molasses does.

Anybody else use corn syrup? Thoughts?

Agave Nectar.

I've never used corn syrup, but it doesn't get a lot of hype around here so it either sucks or you're honestly the first to think about it. I usually use glycerine though Edited by Dr. B

i know about that thread but there is no info in there that states exactly which agave nectar to use with shisha.

Which hardcore vendors are you looking at hehe, didnt know there were different variants of it, nobody else seems to have had an issue with this, the only advice i can give you is to find a vendor which only sells one type, yeah that advice sucked i know wallbash.gif happy.gif

I use glycerine and Trader Joe's Organic Blue Agave Nectar from the blue agave variety of the plant. Works super duper well.

I would worry about inhaling vaporized corn syrup, we get enough of that horribnle stuff in most of what we eat here in the states. Agave is proven to have a low glycemic index rating which means the body absorbs it over a greater period of time and more completely and easily converts it to energy instead of fat. Not that that has anything to do with inhaling it, but in general I'm more comfortable with agave.

not from any vendor. im reading wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agave_syrup

Agave nectars are sold in light, amber, dark, and raw varieties. Light agave nectar has a mild, almost neutral flavor, and is therefore sometimes used in delicate tasting foods and drinks. Amber agave nectar has a medium-intensity caramel flavor, and is therefore used in foods and drinks with stronger flavors. Dark agave nectar has stronger caramel notes, and imparts a distinct flavor to dishes, such as some desserts, poultry, meat, and seafood dishes. Both amber and dark agave nectar are sometimes used "straight out of the bottle" as a topping for pancakes and waffles. Raw agave nectar also has a mild, neutral taste.

I bolded what I agree with.

I checked the ingredients before I bought it... its just glucose and fructose. I don't see how that can be any worse than molasses or honey. Maybe I'm missing something.

Best bang for your buck for agave:

http://www.amazon.com/Madhava-Organic-Nect...151&sr=1-96

46 oz x 2....not too bad...free shipping too. around here that would be $40 or more....

madhava's agave is pretty good for flavor too....worth it if you like agave for sweetening more than just mixing with shisha...

If not, I guess go for a smaller container. :-p

I typically use light blue agave nectar... It works well, and doesn't mess with the flavor of the shisha... I also use the dark agave on my pancakes/waffles/french toast... its delicious

I love agave smile.gif both the light and the dark. like mixing it with real maple syrup (maple flavor is too strong for me) for pancake syrup. Much better tasting than the bottled fake maple syrup.

I also am just addicted to agave flavor. I could sit there with a teaspoon of it and just...enjoy....yumm...

Not to mention that in a pinch one can use agave plant fibers and tips as makeshift sutures and needles.

Hmmmm, I have only used glycerine with honey. For those who have tried both glycerine and honey and glycerine and agave, how would you compare the two? How would you compare to using molasses? When you use molasses, do you still need the glycerine?

Whenever I've used honey, molasses, or corn syrup (haven't tried agave, but I'd really like to) I've added glycerine as well. I add them for different reasons though. The honey/syrup is for making the tobacco a bit wetter, makes it burn a bit better IMO. I add the glycerine for the clouds, and it also helps against overburning the tobacco.
