Three Cocos?!

Recommended Posts

I gotta ask, how do some of your guys put 3 coco's on a small phunnel? Do you put it on everything? I put 3 cocochas on a small phunnel of AF Esk. Apple and guava and it wasn't harsh, but STRONG with maybe dare i say it, too much flavour! And at the mo I am smoking AF strawbery, genadine and gavua mix and its strong enough with just 2.

Do you guys have lungs of steel or does it depend on which flavour being smoked which dictates the amount of heat it can take? I loved the amount of smoke that it gives with 3 but it is just reaaaaaly strong...

I usually use 3-4 coco coals on a phunnel, I think it really just depends on how you pack it.

Agreed. Also a lot of it has to do with personal preference.

If two coals is perfect for you, then why keep trying for 3? Just because everyone else is? Edited by lowspeedchase

For a small phunnel I use 2 cocos and a windcover.

you use less for AF than tangiers??

Yep. But this really does vary from flavor to flavor. The Esk. Apple I have is amazingly juicy and if I put three on, I just can't get any good smoke--I mean, there will be smoke, but the liquid will burn too fast and give off a bad taste.

For AF Honey and AF Mint, I usually start at 3 and then, if it's not cooperating, take one off, take a few puffs and then throw on the windcover and usually get great smoke.

Take this with a grain of salt, I only smoke 3 AF flavors and I only regularly smoke one--Esk Apple.

You all astound me with the amout of coals you all put on your hookahs.

well as you know mush it depends on the tobacco. I use either 2 cocos chopped in half or 3 shishaco's on a mini phunnel, but that is if i am using nakhla which requires more heat, and that is packing the crap out of it.

And to the OP, as others have said it depends on the juiciness and the brand of tobacco. For AF I would think 2 cocos is plenty, if not bust out the wind cover.

wow. no wonder i go through coals so 'quickly'

small phunnel + nakhla = 4 cocos
" " + AF = 3 cocos
" " + tang lucid = 3 cocos

those are really the only brands i smoke... but everything falls within that range

typically I have done 3 cocos for everything but tangiers, which I do 2 and normally the windcover.. Lately though it seems like I've been using the windcover constantly for everything.. perhaps its time to use more coals..

4 cocos for a small with nak ... really? try cracking the cocos in half so the heat distributes better and i doubt u will need 4 cocos

I use 3 on nakhla, and cycle in the windcover. It can start to get just a little 'warm' id say, but i dont mind that at all. Taking off the cover will make it cool down to normal temps quickly

I use CH coals, but I am assuming they are very similar when it comes to heat. I always have to use 3 coals to get good smoke(no wind cover), I'd be curious to see you set up a hookah and get good results with less. There is no doubt in mind mind you do, but I'd just be curious to see it.

The reason I want 3, is purely for the amount of smoke it pulls. I mean 2 isn't exactly weak, but with 3 its just WOW. The only time i can put 3 on and can smoke normally is with Nak DA, which is just bliss.

Mush, i agree with you! I am always shocked to hear 3 cocos let alone 4! It looks like the whole bowl is just covered in coal! How much do you put on yours?

As for packing, I have tried tweaking my method many a time, if I keep the shisha level with the inner phunnel, it doesn't come out nice at all, the shisha has to be to the brim. It's a relatively loose pack, but generously filled. And as for water level, if I keep it 1-1.5 inch submerged, its really easy to drag but I get a very dry smoke which isn't pleasant, so I think my level is 2-3 inches submerged (KM Exotica is the hookah). Single layer of standard foil, and 3 ring of tooth pick sized holes and not many of them. Probably about 21 all together. I dont know if these dictate the amount of coals I need

I use 4 japs on a small phunnel 3 on a mini, and i use 4 on a normal eqytpian and 3 on a mod bowl. It all just comes down to heat management if its getting hot...fix it.

i just might do that...that shit aint cheap

but yes, really. ridiculously densely packed nakhla in a small phunnel + 4 cocos is absolutely wonderful. the head will last about 3 rounds of coals. it's ridic and legit. . .SIMULTANEOUSLY. the whole method/setup has made my tobacco of choice nakhla

try using 2 layers of standard foil
maybe that's why you can only stand 2 coals and others can stand 3
less heat will get to the shisha with it double-foiled or it will take a bit longer

Who uses coal?!? I use an acetylene torch!

Actually, I use 2-3 cocos when smoking pretty much everything... but then again, I normally smoke outside, so that requires quite a bit more heat
