Tangiers In A Egyptian

I just ordered some tangiers cuz of all the hype but everything I read about it says they are using a phunnel. I have one of the chinese phunnels so I'm just using my egyptian until I have money for a legit one. So I was wondering what the proper packing technique would be for tangiers (lucid btw) in an egyptian?

I think it would be better out of the Chinese phunnel than out of the Egyptian, since you could use the proper packing technique. I've had plenty of excellent sessions with tang from a Chinese phunnel, I've just had better sessions with a real one

i think you'll be fine with the egyptian for now, i would do the same thing, over pack a bit and press down. enjoy your smoke and the memories for when you have a real phunnel

I've only used an egyptian 2 times for Tangiers after I dropped my first funnel and was waiting on a new one. My best advice is because it should be packed tight, make sure to poke through the holes in the bottom of the bowl, probly come up from underneath with a toothpick or kabob skewer and make sure the holes there are open. I remember when I first got the bowl going I couldn't even pull through it, I had to take the bowl off and hold it with an oven mitt and poke some holes up through the bottom to get airflow, after that it was good though. Watch the amount of coals, may only need one coal on a small egyptian, depends what kind you're using. Hope this helps.

Pretend its a phunnel, pack the tobacco around the perimeter the same way, and leave a half pack through the center. Foil, poke holes, then flip the bowl over and, while holding the foil on the bowl, blow you should get a decent airflow...you should notice a slight eestriction, but with good flow otherwise.

It'll work fine. News of the phunnel being necessary for Tangiers is bull. I used standard heads for years with Tangiers and noticed no ill effects.

yeah I don't have a phunnel either and I packed it pretty much like that. but to make sure I kept it from getting in the holes I put the tip of my thumb on the middle hole and packed around it. it works great. just make sure you pack it tight

That's how I started with Tangiers. Used a Hemi Bowl. Canon showed me how to pack just like Eric said.

I guess I can try using the Chinese again. How many coals did you use?
