abdelito14
Hey hookah lover, newbie to the site but not to hookah as the title says! I have a no brand name hookah given to one of my roomates and love it. have been smoking hookah for about 2 years now and think im ready to move up into good brand name stuff. i was looking around the site and see Km alot but don't know what it is. I have smoked from a friends crystal 48 inch mya. So my questions as arbitrary as they may sound, best first hookah thats not too pricey but definitely nice enough to be a UF gator living room piece? Best hoses (have heard alot about namor and razaan)? and where to get them and what are reasonable prices?? thank you guys!Abdelito
EternalSoil
Welcome!Dont forget to read the Rules! If you get a KM, you will get KM hoses, which are very good hoses. You can save some money and get a MZ, but their hoses are not as good I hear.Really, its gonna be personal preference. Unless you prefer a crappy aluminum knockoff thing of course.
momatik
I have to agree with above. Hookah:If you pick from Khalil Mamoon (KM), Magdy Zidan (MZ), or Mya, you will have fantastic smoke with minimal differences in between. If you are in a dorm, I would think you would want a smaller hookah, with better stability.the Mya QT and the Mya Bambino are both great hookahs which are small, competitively priced (around $50) and are difficult to tip over.Hose:This is an issue for me because everyone on the board will tell you Nammor/Razan washable hose, which I have myself, but the thing is it's only a matter of time until it falls apart. My suggestion is to buy a nammor, use cold water only to wash it with, and when it does break down, make a Home Depot Hose with the tips.As much as people will tell you to buy a KM or buy a Mya, it's so much more about the bowl, the shisha, the hose, and the coals. Keep this in mind when you consider spending a lot of cash for a hookah, when that money could go towards quality coals and a phunnel bowl. They're known to be reasonably well constructed, attractive, and wide diameter. They "pull" very easily.Razan and Nammor are the same hose with different brand names. They're washable, but they break down. All hoses do, pretty much. Don't get too attached. Razan/nammor and KM hoses all are wide diameter, which is appropriate for a wide diameter pipe like a KM or an MZ.There are a handful of places to buy a good pipe, but a few of the favorites around here are Hookahjohn.com, Hookahcompany.com, and hookah-shisha.com. I've bought pipes from each of them, and they're great.Something in the $100 range seem appropriate to you? I have gotten quite a few compliments from it. The "official" people don't care either. I was walking down to the lounge to smoke and the hall director saw me and goes "Ooo nice hookah, have fun!" My KM has an extremely good pull, smokes like a beast, but the built quality is not the best. Welds are clearly visible, one of the welds has cracked, and I've had some rust/corrosion issues. BUT, even with these problems, it still smokes great. Might check out Syrian, next hookah I purchase will probably be one, they usually look really nice. One question you may want to ask yourself how important aesthetics is to you. inino
www.hookahcompany.comany of their KM's should do you just fine, and they come with excellent hoses. Now if you are looking for something less traditional go with a mya and a nammor hose. www.hookah-shisha.com under chinese hookahs.
abdelito14
wow thanx guys for all the responses. so pretty much what ive gotten is that the more traditional ones are the Km and Mz, and they are overall good with the hoses they come with. The mya's are good with a namor or razaan hose but all of them break down eventually. sweet i think im def gonna go with either a Km or a mya with a different hose. question: how long do the hoses generally last?? and what are the best coals?? thanxabdelito Edited May 27, 2009 by abdelito14
EternalSoil
all hoses should last a while if you take care of them.I have had my nammor for 2 years and the gasket between the removable tip and the handle has only come out once because i washed it with really hot water and melted the glue.Don't wash any other hoses with water though, they will rust because they have metal coils inside.I would say just get a hookah and some shisha and coals for now. then, if you feel like it, get a new hose when you order more shisha/coals.with coals it depends on your preference.just like people will tell you only to get a mya or only get a KM, others will tell you only get coconaras or only get CH coals. They have a tendancy to leak, rust, and lean. Just do a quick search on the forums and you may find some reviews and comments from people who have owned them.I think they probably smoke just fine, and if you took really good care of it you would have no problem.Just dont get a multi-hose rotator or people might make fun of you. ilikemyusername
why don't you just get new gadgetry for the pipe you already have?new hose, bowl and possibly vase, thats what i'd do.
Stuie
just do some reading in the Review section. Find a pipe the people say smokes good and you like the look of, and you will in all likelihood find yourself a winner!

Same thing pretty well, I think the chiller may be a bit better quality as it is older, but whatever. My 32" KM is a ice hookah. Like I said, not the best build quality, but smokes like beast. I got mine for a bill from John. Came with a badass hose (KM supreme as HC calls them, leather wrapped as John calls them) I agree with the others though, the hose and bowl are extremely important...My buddy bought a cheap 3 hose chinese hookah from a local hippie store and it smoked ok, not that great though. I hooked up my bowl and hose to is and holy shit! It didn't smoke as well as mine, but it really helped it out 10 fold. Thats my Oh, and just thought I should add, don't buy the ice hookah for the bucket, it really doesn't make much or a difference. The reason I bought it was because I thought it looked cool. I actually use the bucket for storage of extra coals, foil, and push pins for making holes in the foil. Still handy I suppose.
