Cause they are processed differently, as in they aren't designed to be heated. Like Reynolds or Hookah Foil.
EternalSoil
Yeah, most of the foil that the coals are wrapped in have of course, the ink on it, and many have other kinds of stuff on them, like a thin layer of plastic or something.i have heard of people successfully using metal forks. They just let the rest of the area open.I'm trying to think of other possible things you could use.but, necessity is the mother of invention so... mattarios2
i tried it once, noticed no difference. But i find it to be a good thing for the shisha to stick to the foil. Because that way the heat goes through the holes, passes by the burnt tobacco and then goes down to the fresh stuff. If it didn't stick to the foil, wouldn't the heat just directly be burning the already burnt tobacco?

Tom1
I saw a video of some guy using small rounded pebbles, it worked pretty good even though it took awhile for the rocks to heat up.

Sonthert
It is possible that the foil has other metals in it, like lead or antimony. Contaminants that are poisonous...best to not take a chance.
Damethe
Yeah I thought it was probablly bad. lol. but it worked for a while, then we went on a trip to good old walmart and now we have a roll of tin foil (recycled ) in his car for such emergencies. lol
delSol_si
Awhile back someone posted that they used a Keystone can in place of foil. It worked for them, but was a really bad idea considering the chemicals and ink on the can.
Sonthert
Yeah, the bottom of a regular can with no ink on can be quite useful...
