Tangiers Flavor Issues?

Recommended Posts

So I was at a buddy's house who ordered some tangiers, and we packed up a bowl and smoked it. The clouds were fine but it tasted like pure tobacco, like no flavoring. His shisha was about the same wettness as my tangiers and we packed it the same way I do, but we got literally no flavor, so we ditched that bowl and repacked a different flavor, and the same thing happened. Not sure whats up as I never have trouble getting flavor from Tangiers but both of his packs tasted like just pure tobacco, it was Orange Soda and Static Starlight that we had.

This happens to all shisha. I recommand making sure that:
1) the hookah is spankin clean
2)new water in the vase
3) the hose is clean *** that one is pretty important Try smoking directly form the hookah, see if its the hose that is the problem.

Yeah it was acclimated according to him. We tried doing a base hit thinking it was the hose, but still nothing. We always use fresh water in our base and I'm pretty sure he cleans his hookah regularly. I dunno, its just weird. I'm going back over tonight with my tangiers to see if it's his hookah or the shisha.

Gotta make sure on packing it that your stir the CRAP out of the shisha, and like Eric said in a different thread, load it like a "cake" layer (so from top to bottom of your container, NOT loading it JUST off of the top of the shisha).

And, it may be the coals...

I made sure to stir it, so that wasn't the problem. We tried the orange soda again tonight from his batch and no flavor, then from my batch, packed and everything the exact same and we got flavor. Dunno.

We both store it in old SB containers. Maybe it was just a bad batch?

Happened to me too, I dont know why. I store my tangiers in Ziplock containers, gladware containers and now glass bowls!

I would get that feeling in my mouth like I am smoking a cigar... Edited by newjacksm

dont know what to say, ive ordered alot of tangiers and the only 3 reasons i wouldnt get flavor are..

A) coals are bad
cool.gif container isnt good enough
C) bowl is cashed and no more flavor is there.

Yup, the acclimation was fine it smelt just like the batch I had, we used the same 3K coals. Like I said, everything was teh same between the two batches of shisha except one got flavor and one didnt.

Two things that come to mind.

1) You're smoking out of a Chinese Hookah or one with a common chamber bell. Its accumulated some insoluble material and is masking the flavor.

2) If the humidity and the temperature go up, it will produce a strange acclimation issue that results in no flavor. I've seen it...recently, even. The same tobacco will rebound. It will smell normal, but have no flavor...it also may be accompanied by extra juice leakage. The first time it happened with me is when I was still developing Tangiers. I was shocked. I tried two different flavors and no flavor. I was disgusted so I pulled out Nakhla Double Apple and got the same no flavor result.

Well it was right after we had a pretty big thunderstorm chain for 2-3 days so the humidity could have something to do with it, but if it messed up his batch why not mine?

One of you had last acclimated yours sooner than the other...or at different houses with different environmental preparations (one has dehumidification, or air conditioning and the other doesn't...etc.). It should bounce back.

Alternately, it could be a serving issue (Not balancing taking off the top and the bottom, etc.)

He called me today after trying to reacclimate his, saying it had some flavor, not as much as normal but more than nothing. It was a weird exp.
