HookahDuck
After struggling with bulk natural charcoal for the past month or so, our beloved Mushrat kindly sent me a few sticks of Al Quemma coal to try out. For those of you who dont know, its a "finger" type coal, that is thicker than Nour fingers (about 3/4" thick), in sticks that are about 6-7 inches long. I gave them a shot last night in my stargate with some Tangiers Kashmir Peach- and I LOVE these coals! They took less than half the ammount of time to properly light with my torch, and stayed lit easilly. The only downside is the duration of burn (2 1" chunks only lasted 20-25 mins or so), but I was smoking outside in the wind(which will obviously burn them faster due to the constant surge of oxygen). No taste, and less of a smell(when lighting) than bulk natural. Im a customer for life. You guys that are huge fans of bulk natural, and want to branch out from quicklights- try these! Thanks again Mushy!-Duck

EsOva
i searched social smoke, hookah hookah, and hookah company for some Al Quemma charcoal and no luck...can you guys point me in the right direction, thanks in advance
HookahDuck
I know where you're coming from Enthusiast. I used Goldens only for nearly a year before moving on to natural coal. I decided to buy a box of naturals just to see what I was missing. You'll be very surprised- the taste is much more true and clean. The best part for me however, was not having to smell that terrible oder when lighting goldens (it just about makes me naucious)
Brandontw
I have wondered about mabye using like kingsford BBQ charcoal for hookah, would this work? It sure would be cheap...
The Dude Abides
Yeah I recently switched from bulk nattys to Nour finger coals. I loved the natural coals but got tired of having to use a rock hammer to break up the larger pieces. With the Nours I just snap'em down to size and they are just as tasteless. I'm very happy with them.
mushrat
brandontw: i suggest HIGHLY against using kingsford type briquettes. If you do i'd liek you to leave a note saying I get your stereo.
Sonthert
It might work real well to pour gasoline in the vase, instead of water, gasoline is an excellent solvent and would probably dissove alot of nicotine, making the smoke very smooth.Wait!!!! No, it was a joke! Put the red can down...Don't use self lighting briquettes intended for BBQ...if, on the bag, it says "Intended for outdoor use" you should NOT use them for hookah. They add organic accelerants which likely cause brain and nerve damage. HD: When I get out towards LV, I'll bring you a nice bag of Argentinian low sulfur natural coal...$5 for a 25Lb. bag. Thats my cost...like $9 retail.
