Stuie
Okay this is weird.I just got 2 new flavors OG Brambleberry and Lucid Sour Grape. After acclimating over night and stirring the crap out of them. Both flavors tonight started great, but then turned to straight tobacco flavor.Do I need more acclimation or something else?Smoking Tangiers for a year and this is a new one on me. Sonthert
More acclimation. Thats a result of the tobacco not having enough humidity...it needs to get damp.
Tyler
Same thing happened to my friend and I, his Orange Soda started out normal then went flavorless. After re-acclimating them it turned out fine again.

mushrat
ya, sometimes when we have a severe weather change most if not all of my tangier stock goes slavourless and I have to re-acclimate it ALL again. A pain but worth it to serve the stuff I think. And my customers are understanding now when I tell them the Tangiers isn't working properly that day. I'd love ot hear the conversation "uh we're sorry but our tobbaco seems to be out of order, try back tomorrow"On a side note,, the tobacco actually needs to absorb some humidity from the air? Would a super humid enviroment speed up this process? Thats crazy,, Eric you are the mad scientist of shisha! And we love you for it...LOL
Zyram
Stuie, mine did that also the other day. I know you're in Texas like me, so I am guessing it's that big front and the storms the last couple days. I even had my tangiers open already that day and it was still screwy. Worked fine last night though, and I'm looking forward to another bowl tonight.-ZP.S. I had one bowl of spearmint still made, it worked fine, but the grape that I had set out yesterday did not.
Tyler
I just ordered my first 3 pack of Tangiers Lucid. You do not have to acclimate Lucid, correct?
mattarios2
no not necessary.

norcalsmoker
Speaking of Lucid Sour Grape, I just got it and it's my first tangiers ever. I let it acclimate even though its lucid for a few hours. It smelled great so I loaded up a bowl and began to smoke. I can't get any flavor from it as stuie mentioned. I know I have to be doing something wrong, it is my first attempt at tangiers. My setup is a MZ perpetual river and a Medium Tangiers Phunnel Bowl. I packed the bowl dense and to the rim. Poked many hole with a fork through the tobacco to the bottom of the bowl. I used two 1/4 exoticas on opposite ends of the bowl. The smoke was good and thick at moments, slighty harsh (tingle in back of throat) at moments but from what I have heard it's just a quirk of tangiers. On the second try I had let the tobacco acclimate more after reading sontherts response to stuies flavor problem in this thread. It didn't help and I couldn't get any flavor. There has got to be something I am doing wrong. Is half an exotica stick too much coal? How long would I need to set it out to acclimate if there is no flavor?

I'm not smoking Tangiers right now due to the weather fluctuations recently here in Sactown. One day its sunny, next day cloudy and stormy, next day sunny, not good weather right there. Gonna wait till maybe Sunday to smoke some Tangiers. Use less coal for sure. I use like 2 fifths of an exotica when I do Tangiers because it burns hotter than other coals. If you need more then you add a third fifth. Just kind of play with it till you hit the zone.

The weather could have been the problem because it was just how you described in lodi too. I will attempt tangiers again when I get home from work. I'll use less coal and hopefully since the weather has mellowed out I will get a good session. Thanks
Bulldog_916
I hope you do get a good smoke out of it. If you dont, you can chill at my place and I'll pack you a good bowl of it so you can see how I do it. It could help you figure out a system of your own to work it. Arcane
if the smoke was thick and harsh, with no flavor....you might have too much heat on there. that's kinda what happened to me when i first started out with Tangiers...i think it was mushy that told me to back off the heat...and presto, i became a BIG fan of tangiers...
