I get my Obelisk today/tomorrow any words of wisdom/advice for a first time hookah user.

Make sure it's air tight right when you get it in order to get the best session possible. Just plug where the bowl would go (but with the bowl off) with your thumb with water in the base and hit your hookah. If you hear no air leaking out and of course no bubbling then that means your hookah is completely air tight. If you hear a hissing noise..you got a problem that will hinder your sessions. Hopefully you won't though =] I know my obelisk has been dropped so many times by idiots (it was given to me by a friend after it was used A LOT) it now has all sorts of leaks.

Your first bowl will taste a little plasticy most likely, that is just because it's brand new hoses with a brand new hookah . Either way that's the jist of what we can tell you.

BTW when you put water in your hookah, make sure your downstem is 1/2 inch under water. No more or less (unless you like to experiment).

COMPLTELY light your coals, leave as little black left on your coals as possible. They should be red hot when you put them on your bowl. With a standard MYA bowl that it comes with you should only need 1 coal for a good session, im assuming your going to be smoking the free shisha and coals your hookah should come with.

Agreed... the perfect water level is right at the bottom of the top glyph... I would also recommend getting a diffuser as it did improve my sessions with the obelisk. Enjoy, it's an awesome hookah!

be extremely careful with the obelisk base. mine broke in 2 spots, when i gently set it in the sink to refill the water...

the obelisk is an awesome hookah though, have fun with it.

Man, I've been wanting an Obelisk for a while now. I haven't smoked from one, but they look SWEET and apparently smoke pretty well

Just take care of it, and it will treat you well. That's one hell of pipe for a first time hookah user, too. Good stuff. Hope you enjoy it!

Be careful with the stem as well. I think the obelisk has a hollow stem rather than a solid stem, makes it easier to dent and break. I could be wrong though. There is another hookah that looks VERY similar to the obelisk. One has a solid stem, one has a hollow, can't remember which is which.
