Active Hookah Smokers

I recently started trying to get back in to working out again, just to feel better about myself smoking hookah all the time. It seems to be a lot harder for me to get back in to shape than it was a year ago ( before I started smoking so much hookah).

I know I won't be dropping hookah now or anytime soon, I just have to adjust.

I know it is still possible but it will be really hard for me to work my way back up and become fit again. Does anyone here workout regularly or play any sports while smoking hookah regularly in their lifestyle?

I fight (muay thai) which I train for 4 days a week... plus running every other day... kayaking every weekend... and finally surfing/skimming when mother nature cooperates.

It does take your body a while to get used to it (I was coughing like a madman for weeks when I first started hookah) but it's very possible.... just stay focused and look past the "holy shit I can't breathe" feeling. laugh.gif

I smoke more now than i have ever and i think im in the best shape of my life. I played football for 12 years and i work out everyday, i roll jiu jitsu and i can do 3 5 min rounds with no problems. Plus i have been training a little muay thia and i havnt had problems with breathing or anything.

Dang I need to get out more you guys make me feel like a dumb partying college kid xD

Nah I just need to take advantage of the Florida summers and get outside more smile.gif Go swimming in the pool in my backyard I never use:X

Maybe if I invite some girls over it will give me another reason to get in the pool ... nyam1.gif

I work out 4-5x a week where ill lift for about 20 mins then do 30-45 mins on the treadmill. Tuesdays i play softball, I practice breathholds a few times a week (up to 3:00 or so now) and freedive spearfish every other weekend. Also i work in a factory 40hrs a week which is a workout in itself. Edited by fineout

i know this wasn't a 'here is my schedule thread' but it's kind of integrated in your shape. ANNNNNYYYYYVAYYY, i started working out a few months ago because i felt/looked like a marshmallow and because of my incessant hookahing. right now i'm in just about as good of shape as i was when i played lax in high school. when i first started working out it was tough, i'm sure mainly because i hadn't done anything in the past three years or so but i know my hookah habit didn't help any either. i would say that some type of exercise is definitely needed for how much people on the forums smoke...

I smoke once or twice a day. I am a fatsoooo. But I can beat all you athletic people in swimming. I can swim for hours and I float like a wooden board. When I say swimming I do not mean just floating around, I mean crossing the lake back and forth few times.

DUDE SPEARFISHING FOR THE WIN! But freediving? Damn dude! RESPECT! I use a hookah (hahah it's a floating air compressor to pump air underwater) or tanks when I go spearfishing or bug hunting...

Yes it certainly does. When is this hookah-fest btw?

When i go out with my dad we use a Brownie's third lung hookah..but freedive when i go alone. What kind of gun do you use?

I'm a sophmore in college and I smoke hookah about 3 or 4 times a week. I lift and run about 4 times a week. However I did notice my running endurance has dropped due to smoking hookah the past year but I've been trying to work on that this summer and I've really improved. I can now run at 7.5mph for 2.5 miles instead of the 2 miles at 7mph. Just keep up with your workouts and your body will get better

well, previously i was lifting 5 days/week, cardio 7 days/week, along with BJJ 4 days/week, and MMA 3/days...usually:

Sun: cardio/rest
Mon: Lift/Cardio/BJJ
Tues: LiftCardio/MMA
Wed: Lift/Cardio/BJJ
Thurs: LiftCardio/BJJ
Fri: Lift/Cardio/MMA
Sat: Cardio/BJJ/MMA

never stopped smoking hookah during training...once you're intensity increases, your body will probably tell you "WTF?!? STOP!!" tell it to shut up and push through it....that's all there is to it. push your body past its limit....which forces it to adapt i.e. get stronger, increase stamina, etc. once its adapts, you push it past its limit again.

....fast forward to 6 months ago, i tore my rotator cuff and now my schedule goes like this:

Sun: Movies, Games
Mon: Movies, Games
Tues: Movies, Games
Wed: Movies, Games
Thurs: Movies, Games
Fri: Movies, Games
Sat: Movies, Games

yep....pretty sad. i got physical therapy 2 days/week too sad.gif
