Complete Noob Question

it should make purging a bit easier...if you won't have to blow as hard to get the bb to "float" as opposed to a steel ball bearing...

however, there are concerns that the seams from the bb, maybe prevent it from sitting flush.

As much as I want to be a smartass I'll give an actual answer. It purges smoke from the base. If the smoke gets stale blow into the hose and the smoke goes out the purge valve. Replacing the metal ball bearing with an airsoft bb can be a good idea because the bb won't corrode and rust obviously and allows for an easier purge. It can screw up the draw on the pipe if the bb doesn't quite fit right though.

A purge valve allows you to blow into the hose to empty the vase of smoke. You do this when it gets harsh and if you're changing the bowl. But people swap the metal bb for a plastic one because the metal ones tend to rust.

dont let these other "hookah smokers" fool you.. if you turn the valve ALL the way to the right, you will get AMAZING thick smoke.. but if you turn the valve ALL the way to the left, then the smoke wont be as thick.. kinda like a minimum and maximum knob for the smoke thickness, left being minimum, right being maximum..

hope this helps lol_hitting.gif

This is totally true. I thought I had mine turned all the way to the right, but my smoke was still thin and terrible. Then I realized I had been doing it upside down! No wonder I was always getting wet!

No disrespect, but I think you are full of shit. It doesn't matter how far you twist the purge. Hell, take the fucker off, it doesn't make a difference. It's just a little ball that sits there, the cover doesn't make a bit of difference how high it sets...

In fairness some hookahs do actually have a purge valve that doesn't have a ball, it's manual, and what he said does actually work, if you loosen it off a bit it lets a bit of fresh air into the mixture... so technically he's right in some cases
