Finally Built My Own Hose, You Should Too

Recommended Posts

Thanks to BrotherBuford and his instructional post here (over 2 years old no less!): http://www.hookahforum.com/index.php?s=&am...st&p=159717

I went out to the depot yesterday and picked up what I needed. Rather than wash the vinyl out with lemon juice or old beer or something, I just smoked a big fat phunnel of F-Line Kashmir... and as you might have guessed, it did the trick Hookah.gif

The pull is effortless, so awesome! Feels just like breathing. Much less restrictive than the stock (gorgeous) hoses that came with my Obelisk. Also watching the smoke populate the line is entertaining. I bought 10' of vinyl and didn't cut it down at all.

I'll post a video of it in action when I get home tonite.

Thanks again to BrotherBuford and to bobosap (for the original design)!

Home depot hoses are the most amazing thing ever. Total cost of about 5-7 bucks depending on how long you want it and it lasts for freaking evar. Great hoses. I want to mod my old ass nammor with vinyl tubing and make it a Home Nammor biggrin.gif

Dude, don't delay - build it today! And agreed about the lasting forever, so easy to break down and wash, I love it.

how much did the hose end up costing to make? I really want to make one like that but if it ends up costing close to what a nammor costs, then idk

It came out to ~$20... I justify it though because it will last forever and pulls awesome.

Yea. Lowspeed spent ~$20, I was able to spend about $5 on my first home depot hose. Epic win. The DIY section has a lot of info, ookloo's tutorial is great.

so long as you have hose handles you only have to spend 5-10 dollars. I could never figure out the double tubing seal so I just use electrical tape which cuts the cost even more provided you have some on hand.

Yah but the brass looks cool... next time I want to go all chrome plated stainless though.

Holy shit, thanks for bringing this up, very interesting. The only thing I am concerned about is making a sweet asss handle as I am not very artistic. So is brass poisonous or not?

Oh, and did you see that sweet ass mod that guy did to his hookah? Cut off his hose port and put on a quick connect thing...very awesome! I really wonder if it is welded on or soldered on? I can solder, but not weld.

I keep trying to find some place online to just buy the tips so I can make one of these, I'd like to have some nice tips but I don't want to buy whole hoses just to tear them apart. I found one place that has some tips on sale, but I think they're just the end you smoke, not the end that goes into the hose grommet (did I say that right?)

No matter, this is awesome!

wouldnt need to weld or solder the fitting on to the stem as long as he finds something that can screw in with some teflon tape which is what it looks like he did.

Yah awesome indeed! And yes, brass poisoning is possible, but you need prolonged exposure coupled with open sores/cuts... the plastic/silicone nipple eliminates the risk though; the brass never touches your lips.

Awesome x2! But yah, usually the tips are just the plastic condoms... you'll need to buy a cheap hose and tear it apart to get a classic looking stem connector/handle.

Yah exactly. I was considering doing this as well, but to be honest it fits into my mya heart just like a normal hose and works perfect...

Intriguing...I really want to do this...it is a bitch trying to cram my KM leather hose in the hose port. I have to put crazy amount of force into it. I really think I am going to try this.

and LOL, lowspeed said nipple!! smile.gif

I just finished replacing an older hose that I had with a 10' vinyl hose.

Here are the results:

Also, I still have a bunch of other hoses to use in the future (my snake pit):

It smokes good but I forgot to clean it before I smoked. I got a huge buzz and I thought that I should probably wash it first.

Here is a video of the first use of it.

I couldn't watch the video, but you've inspired me. I can just buy sale hoses for the next few years, and then, as they wear out, I can pirate the parts for my own homemade hoses later on. I really do want a clear hose but with cool tips. Very nice! Edited by Genie

I know that there are places that sell these hose covers, they are a length of fabric that you put the hose in and it covers the hose up, I had one for my old washable plastic hose (I have a Razan/Nammor hose now, and I put it on that as well!). In case anyone wants a great mod hose but does want something to cover up the tubing (personally I like watching the smoke in it) but just a thought I figured I'd throw out there.
