This is a study for acclimation issues. Chaz, PM me and we'll see if we can get you straightened away fr the other issues.

sjCrain: did you have problems acclimating or just smoking a good bowl?

I didn't even actually try to acclimate way back then. So I'm essentially thinking that I could be a guinea pig for whatever methods you want to test.

Eric I'll play... I have gotten tangiers to work but strangely only in the winter...

You have air conditioning is my guess. You have a radiant heating system or don;t use too much heat in the winter? in the winter, the humidity level is closer inside to that outside. It is also possible when it gets warm, you start smoking outside.

Am I close to right on any of this?

Barely use the heat at all... I keep the house around 60... and I almost always smoke in my room in front of the computer...

Your computer is the heater. It brings the temp inside to at least 5 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. I've had times where the rest of the house was cold and it was good in my room because the comp was on.

I do use the AC during summer... this year I've added a humidifier... keeps the house around 30% to 35% and again similar balance in the winter...

1. I have never been able to get any Tangiers to Acclimate. (True/False)
T. with OG.
2. I have tried different packing methods and none of them work. (T/F)
T. I had one or two good sessions with Melon Blend, but I went through 1 kilo between Melon, K-Peach, Nectarine, and Schnozzberry without getting a good smoke trying various packing methods. I've also had a lot of issues with my BGB Lucid.
3. Tangiers always smells burnt or like soy sauce. (T/F)
T. with the Schnozzberry, Nectarine, and K-Peach.
4. I have tried leaving Tangiers out for extended periods of time, to no avail, it doesn't change at all. It still smells off. (T/F)
T.
5. I have tried smoking it and it tastes bad. (T/F)
T.

I gave up on OG and only tentatively buy Lucid now and then. Edited by Ralleac

Just got some kashmire apple and green apple candy. The kashmire apple acclimated fine like the other tangiers I got,but the green apple candy is proving to be impossible to acclimate. It did acclimate one day (after 96 hours)and was nice and jolly rancher sweet had one good smoke, but the next day went to hell agin.Green apple candy goes from jolly rancher to bug spray.Ohh the smell is awfull.
I'm leaving it open for the next couple of days untill it smells good agin but man should it really take 2 weeks.just got to say that my tangiers, licorice, apple are all awsome.I'm not so sure about kashmire apple yet.Seems like smoking nag champa wands with a rose finish.I'm gonna mix it down with more apple.I'm also gonna try it mixed with mint also.
Yea, green apple candy =Bug spray. bad.gif I did git one good bowl though

I never got it to smell right, I thought it was one of those flavors where you get the hint of the smell and it smokes fine sorta liek BGB, but no I smoked a 250g of it and all the bowls tasted bad, basically nothing like green apple candy. Edited by newjacksm

Some people don;t like green apple. It might still be an acclimation issue. It got close to being acclimated and then the humidity ran away again. Just a thought. Do you have other problems with some flavors or just green apple?

only had problems with green apple.Wich in fact seemed to be acclimated today.Smoked pretty good too.nice sour apple candy flavor.I live in an extreamly high and dry climate and I'm betting when you made that batch it was very humid and near sea level. So the shock of being exposed to 8600 feet and 10% humidity threw it for a loop.I'll leave it out one more night to make sure its all good.Took 10 days to acclimate.

Well, thats one problem solved. smile.gif

When we package the tobacco, one package you get might be a couple of weeks older than another one. It might have been made and packaged in a different humidity. One package might acclimate rather quickly while another one grudgingly follows behind because the first one was sealed up at a closer humidity to yours.

If you had a humidifier in your packaging room do you think that would help at all?
or would it just make people in drier climates have problems?
and another question, without revealing too many secrets if possible...
why is it that my nakhla typically comes to me smelling great and ready to smoke, sometimes I have to acclimate for a few minutes or so, it seems to be only vanilla and pistacio that i let sit out for a bit before smoking, hold on I'm losing my train of thought...

SHEBIN EL-KOM the town where nakhla is made is right on the nile and its fertile, I'd imagine it would be more humid there than in other parts of egypt. But not as humid as florida, though i could be wrong. Keep in mind we're a giant peninsula, and it seems that the majority of people that have problems with Tangiers live in FL. or Canada. I could be wrong about that as well.

It's an unwashed shisha, much like yours, but is pretty much ready to rock and roll. Is it from all the juice in your tobacco?
however, Pharoahs and AW are juicy and unwashed and again, no problems for most floridians there a I'm aware of.

I do not claim to be a shisha master blender or anything like that, I just know what I can get to smoke well with minimal effort.

Does your method of flavoring differ significantly from the way that other tobacco manufacturers flavor thiers? I know you use molasses in your product because I can smell it. I've also heard you say something about it in the past.
It's the flavor that doesn't come through, almost like the molasses is making a barrier between the tobacco and the flavor.

I'm sure you already know this and you see me as just rambling on,(which I'm doing) I'm just tossing ideas out there, sometimes when I start trying to figure something out, I seem to forget my roots and continue out on a limb.

I believe it is because he cooks his shisha to remove all the water in the tobacco. Therefore making the shisha have to acclimate to the water in the air, rather than the water in the shisha.

From my understanding nakhla is a very low water tobacco as well though, probably just not as low as tangiers though.

Its best to just let it do its own thing with acclimation, trust me.

Our flavoring process does differ from every other company. Parts of it, anyhow.

I always believed Nakhla was a low-water content, but after your current revelation about the wetness of Nahkla, does that need to be reexamined? I think so. If there is something drying out of boxes, but not jars or tins, that would have to be water content.

you should check out the new mizo stuff ... that stuff is drenched in juices, i recommend, guava, cherry, peach, and mint !

and i also got some new nakhla again, and it was just really really oily, more oily than ever, but it wasn't soaked.
