Glass Screen Instead of Metal or foil!!!

Recommended Posts

It is a better way to smoke cause its less of a hassel to use. And you dont have to worry about pokin holes in the foil each time you smoke. Its a simple process of heating it up a bit and putting it on top of the shisha and laying coals on top of it easy as that. I just think that if more people started using that it would make everyones life much much better

I personally have a glass bowl and a glass screen and all I have to say is that I love it. Its very easy to clean and and not a hassle at all. Smiley?? Well the thing is that here in Tucson where I live, there is a hookah lounge called Smileys own by a guy with the name smiley. I have never personally see the owner but its weird how I buy my glass screens and bowls from him

Yeah I almost bought a glass Smiley pyrex bowl until I saw Taqseem's
deal - the whole thing was like 5 bucks or something. It came with a
medium bowl, metal screen, and wind cover. The thing is a Godsend.

I had this debate about aluminum safety with Smiley a week ago, so I did a little research..."(Aluminum) doesn't vaporize, even at high temperatures"-Merck IndexAlso, the health concerns about aluminum involve aluminum dust being inhaled, not using aluminum foil. There is no reputable scientific evidence to show that aluminum causes alzheimers disease. So, aluminum is stable when heated, it doesn't create aluminum fumes that are inhaled or anything like that. Aluminum is the safest stuff available. The main reason I don't like glass screens is the thermal conductivity issues. Glass cools off and heats up slower than a metal screen or aluminum foil. If you overheat your bowl and need to remove heat, it will still burn, andd take longer to return to normal, while aluminum foil/screens will almost immediately return to normal/cool off. I think, overall, aluminum foil/metal screens give you the most optimal heat control principle.

I know this thread is over a year old, but I should mention that I've read the same info about aluminum's vaporization point, but I'm a bit concerned over the fact that on several occasions I have had a coal burn through the aluminum foil and fall down into the bowl. I'm at a loss as to how this is possible since aluminum supposedly melts at a much higher temperature than a coal could reach.

Sonny, I'm with Sonthert on this one. There is no way that any coal that you are going to be using on a hookah can possibly "burn" through your aluminum foil. Possibly you had too large of an airhole that just ripped or when you moved your coals around the tongs possibly snagged it?

Think about it for a second, you are saying that your coals can melt through aluminum? True it doesn't have that incredibly high of a melt temperature when compared to other metals but its still FAR above what you are going to do with coal. I'm sure a camping blow torch can melt it given a bit of time but that's also a much more powerful source of heat/energy.

Melting a hole in the foil with a coal? Thats pretty fricking abusrd. More likely the foil was stretched taught and tore when a coal or tongs snagged it.

Charcoal burns around 800 or so, aluminum melts around 2200...its a lot more likely two holes near each other formed a weak-spot that tore. Heated aluminum may get softer so that its easier to tear...fatigue in metals does increase with heat, in general.

if he used the same piece of foil over and over i believe it...the particles break down and become less stable when used multiple times i would imagine....

just a thought as i know nearly everybody uses a new piece of foil each time....but some might not...

Does anyone actually reuse foil though?

i doubt it...was merely just a thought...dont know how else it could happen really though...unless of course like others said holes were too big/too close or hitting it with the tongs...but i figured it would be pretty obvious if that were the case..only other reasonable arguement was extremely terrible aluminum foil (if there is such a thing) and re-using it...
