Hookah Problem

Recommended Posts

Well, I smoked hookah for the first time today biggrin.gif. But the smoke seemed kind of light, without much flavour and I'm not sure why.

I filled the hookah with cold water, and added a few ice cubes
Then filled the bowl with strawberry tobacco, placed foil over and poked a few holes with a toothpick
I lit the charcoal and placed it in the centre of the foil
Then smoked for about 30 minutes

Is it meant to be like that or am I doing something wrong?

Make sure you don't have any leaks. To do this, setup your hookah with everything except placing the bowl on top.

Cover the top hole where the bowl would go and pull air through the hose. If you are not getting any air, and the water is not moving, you are good to go.

If that is fine, it could be a number of things, depending on the tobacco and the coals you are using.
-Your coals may not be fully done
-Your shisha may not be getting hot enough, and you may require more than 1 coal
-You may not be packing enough shisha in the bowl
-etc.

For the flavor issues, ditch the ice cubes and use warm or room temperature water.

Do NOT place the coal in the center of the bowl. In fact, break the coal into halves or quarters and distribute evenly around the edges of the bowl. You can move towards the center as the coals begin to die out.

What kind of coals are you using?

What brand of shisha?

There are a number of variables. Just remember this advice, found elsewhere on these forums: hookah smoking is an art. All art takes time to perfect, but you'll get it!

Ok, thanks for the tips everyone!

I've been using Red Kastle coals and SOEX shisha. I read a few bad reviews on SOEX, so I will try out some premium stuff mellow.gif.
Do you think these will be any better?
