Scalli Mod Or Not?

Ok so I just got a Tangiers Phunnel Bowl and am trying to decide if I should buy the mod for it or. Please leave your opinions and experiences to help me decide.

i bought a scalli mod when i got my first phunnel bowl and i used it all the time but now i dont even use it. i just pack the bowl and smoke.

After a while as your technique improves... I find that you stop using it. Plus it's one more thing to clean so i guess that was incentive for me to learn to do without it. I'd say don't get it.

I think it comes in handy to cut down the size of the bowl when its just yourself. With the mod, I can smoke 1 round of coals and its over. without, it'll take 2-3 rounds of coals to finish off the bowl. That's about the extent of it. But to be fair, I still rarely use it, and will often just scrape the baked shisha out, and save the bottom part if there is any left after a bowl.

I use mine with certain flavors it seems to help them smoke better. If your ordering from MNH sometime soon its worth the extra 5 bucks. Otherwise I would not just order it on my own.

I voted don't buy because I like the tea light candles. Rather than cleaning the mod every time, you can just throw it away, plus you can cut it to your own specs.

It's not that difficult to clean the scalli mod lol. I always use the mod and small phunnel together to save on shisha.

yea, for those that say cleaning is hard, just boil it in some water and baking soda for like 10 minutes.. cleans up easily.. also, alittle oil on the mod before you pack helps keep it clean during your session Edited June 18, 2009 by Barnaby

Try the tealight mod first...if you really like it that much, get a few scallis....boil them to clean them.

I have one, but I don't use it all the time on my Tangiers Phunnels. Scalli's Olivewood bowl... all the time.

I keep it cause i will get down to like 15-20g of tobacco and nothing sounds good mixed with it... so i pull out the mod.

Good to have around when you need it!

hmm well it seems the majority say no mod, So i think I'll just use my phunnel un-moded but maybe pick one up next time I order from MNhookah or if I want to cut back the amount I pack in a bowl from time to time

I think you misunderstood us...most of us don't want to spend money on the official "scalli mod," we would rather just use the tea light mod which is the same thing, just cheaper and disposable(or reusable for us cheap asses, lol).

just search "mod for phunnel" on youtube and there are tons of videos with tons of options, many of them cover how to do the tea light mod.

Here is my method for making the tealight mod:
1. get some decent quality tea light candles (not dollar store)
2. take the candle out
3. inspect for any candle residue left behind
4. clean any wax residue left behind if there is any
5. cut triangles in the rim of the foil about 1/2-3/4 of the way up, leaving a little space in between each triangle
6. where each triangle comes to a point, cut a slit to the top (or bottom, whichever way you look at it) of the foil
7. take your fingers and make as much of a dome shape with the foil as you can.
8. place it upside down over the phunnel hole

If you want to save even more shisha, I made a shisha saver + tea light mod thing that works great for me.

There are plenty of other ways to make it too, this is just what I do.

Edit: I never pay attention to how many triangles I cut, I just cut one, move down like 1/8-1/4" and cut another. Edited June 27, 2009 by delSol_si

awesome thanks guys...ill give it a whirl this week when i pick up some tea light candles...I'll prob be cheap and just buy a decent one and reuse the mod lol

Ok, nevermind, I experimented at K1024's hookahfest and it works better without the little slits I was talking about. So after the triangles, I wouldn't bother with the slits...that is if you are using my method. There are plenty of other methods you can use as well.
