The "crown Jewel" Glass Bowl

Recommended Posts

I am the very proud owner of the SECOND glass phunnel-hybrid known as the "crown jewel" -- big thanks Santino.

I've attached pics so you guys can get an idea of its construction.
The pics have a Tangiers medium phunnel for scale/contrast: one for height and the other for diameter.

I haven't had time to use it yet tonight, will do tomorrow and let you all know how it goes. I'm UBER psyched about it.

Hooray for Santino's continued innovations!

I've used my Crown bowl every night for a month. It has never let me down. The "Jewel" isn't for me (due to the size), but it looks like more fine craftsmanship out of Utah.

Any word from Santino on when the site will go up? I'm ready to get a fancy hose tip smile.gif

What is the difference between the crown and the jewel? Just the size?

The crown is simply a dish with the holes blown around the rim, the crown jewel is a hybrid of the crown and a phunnel, also putting a hole in the center. The one he has is the "small". Large will hold roughly 250g.

Here it is, first night's recap--

As per instructions from the man, I loaded the bowl above the brim which would put it above the holes.

First bowl - OG Brambleberry, HD foil, 2 split naras on edges of bowl with homemade windcover.

I was able so smash about 50-60 grams in, this bowl is deceivingly large.

Got about 20 minutes of amazing Boo Berry flavored smoke. Absolute smooth clouds. I felt comfortable with my technique on the medium Tangiers phunnel and figured I would try the same. There is a small window of temperature that makes Tangiers happy, as we all know. As the pyrex reached the full temp, I'm sure that pulling the windcover off sooner would have saved the bowl.

After trying every trick to saving a bowl that's getting harsh, the flavor was gone... though it was no longer harsh we bagged it in hopes of a better second; There are MANY empirical factors left unchanged and untested seeing as this is the first night's smoke.

The heat management was trickier than I had expected. Then again, this is my first time with annealed glass and it does require different technique-- So does cooking with pyrex, for the culinary-inclined.

Pulling the foil off, I discovered the typical Egyptian bowl downfall:

Note the juices that had pooled at the bottom of the bowl.

So for the next bowl, I figured we would try the fail-safe Nakla Double Apple, packed to the bottom of the holes.
HD Foil, 2 cocos split in a North-South-East-West fashion with a windcover for initial bowl heating.

Simply amazing. Beautiful, flavorful clouds. The greatest part of this bowl is the smoothness through which the air pulls through the whole setup. You can absolutely inhale the smoke as if you were breathing with the same minimal respiratory effort it takes for an actual breath.

We could have got more out of it, but between the first failed bowl and one successful, we called it quits. The 40 grams that I was able to pack in BELOW the holes would have lasted another 2 hours easily.

When perfected, I feel confident in saying that this bowl will become the standard for serious smokers. Thoughts or questions?

As for previous replies:

--If I'm not mistaken, the site should go up within the next 2 weeks. Talk to Santino to be sure since I have nothing to do with it other than chatting with the man. But that is what I last heard.

--250g is NOT a typo, the thing is a fucking presidente margarita glass. It is mythical and rarely seen, like a unicorn. It is used for long hauls through a desert in which you will need days of smoke in order to flag the search chopper.
This small one, as already stated, holds about 50-60g depending on what you're smoking and how you pack it. It is not "small" by any means, but rather the smallest of the crown jewel series. It's roughly the same bowl size as the medium Tangiers (see photos).

--I have no idea how it's made, but I think its blown... maybe...? I'm merely a customer so hit up Santino for details on how it's made. I throw down the cash, he keeps me happy; please pardon my ignorance. Edited by The Caterpillar

I was there with The Caterpillar, the Tangiers was FUCKING EPIC until things went awry. The double apple was incredible, it lasted forever and gave birth to clouds rivaling those found in nature.

Get one of these bowls as soon as the site goes up or if you are local as soon as you can get your hands on one.
