Tobacco Storage?

When I get a container of tobacco that doesn't have an airtight seal (starbuzz), I normally just put it in one of these.

as of recent i've been using Mainstays 5-cup 4-pack food storage containers...like $3 at walmart and they've been pretty good so far, before that i just used ziplock bags Edited June 18, 2009 by Moefasaaa

They don't sell Tupperware here, but locally made the same, so I use them in various sizes, you know, 100 gram, 500 gram,and 50 tons!

I usually put it in a med ziploc container. Perfect for 250g of shisha. Or a lock n lock.

I have heard that keeping shisha in plastic bags can cause a loss in flavor. I'm sure it's only a minimal amount over a small period of time.

If you have a lot of shisha which will probably be sitting around for some time, I'd recommend using plastic containers instead.

Hahah, well. I've kept it in the ziploc containers for a while. Once batch of tobacco I even left it in there fro 2 months! It was still fine after i opened it up a little and let it air out. Then I just mixed it up.


Which leads me to my next question, how long does opened tobacco usually last? like, i have some opened packages and when it hits say...2 weeks, should i toss it?

I don't think I'm understanding your question. Why would you toss it? Once you open the package, then you should store it...

Do you mean if you just leave your tobacco exposed to the air? That's dependent on the shisha. Personally, I probably wouldn't leave it out for too long unless it's tangiers.

Fantasia is the only flavor I can think of where you could keep it in the tub. Those containers seem pretty air tight, but then again I don't have too much experience with the brand.

Someone on here suggested this a while ago, but Walmart sells a product that's pretty nifty. If you go to the housewares section, they sell little glass jars. The top (also made of glass) comes right off, and is pretty airtight because there's a rubber grommet attached to the lid. I've been using those for some of my flavors and it works pretty well. I need to go out and buy some more for the rest of my collection. I prefer those over a bag because it seems less messy, and the juice stays in the tobacco and doesn't get separated much (although it will fall to the bottom with time).

Is there an expiration date on tobacco? Like, I know cigs can taste bad if they're old, but does it do the same with shisha?

dunno...i'm going to give my shisha 2 years unopened...after I open it...maybe 6 months before I begin questioning whether it's still good.

i use rubbermaid take-alongs; they're absolutely great - nice and wide and shallow.

as for unopened tobacco...if it's tangiers or maybe even nakhla fuck it, just leave the shit opened it should last because its water content is so low and the tobacco is mainly oil-based (from what i understand) water-based brands, like AF, SB, fantasia, and most other stuff on the US market you need to keep closed prett tightly to prevent the water from evaporating and the tobacco drying out, thus being worth a 'fuckle' as the english would say

LOCK N LOCKS!!!!

They are:
-air tight
-water tight
-will not STAIN
-will not absorb smells
-will not bond with the shisha like some plastics will. (read: will not destroy the flavor over time)

You can clean these out in 2 minutes with no stains what so ever. Then use them for food, precious treasures, or more shisha (i recommend treasure )


I can get these at my local walmart for a little less than $3 each. I think the size i get is the 16.9cup, but I can't remember. I do know it easily holds 500g of shisha and could hold more. (I'm sure there's a conversion there but I'm too lazy)

I go to the goodwill every once in a while and have been able to find some nice glass jars with the rubber grommet to seal them air tight for only $1-$2 each. Granted they never match, but they still work well.

Wow, that does look pretty intense. Haa, I did notice that the ziploc containers do hold the smell... it's pretty sick.

They are cheap, easy to find, reusable, wide mouth, and airtight.
