Is it a normal ctizen's fault that the record companies are and always have been reactionary and have not figured out the whole internet file sharing thing yet? Their fault for not being pre-emptive when new technology comes through, you would expect large companies would do whatever they could to protect their insane capital. Idiots.

Ummm... Isn't that double jeopardy? She got tried for the same crime twice...

From the article: "The new trial was ordered after the judge in the case decided he had erred in giving jury instructions".

The whole "record companies are super rich" argument doesn't really hold up. They're losing money hand over fist, and laying people off rapidly. Right now is the weakest record companies have been in a long while. Plus, if you think the sum is outrageous, blame the sentencing judge and jury, not the record company.

Truth is, she'll never pay a dime of it. Knowing that, why wouldn't they make the figure ridiculously large? helps scare people off.

Further proof that you should never put your fate (or funds) in the hands of 12 assholes that weren't even smart enough to get out of jury duty.

Truth...

I think jury duty should be optional, not recommended. If you force someone to do something, they aren't going to give a shit about it, they will just go along with whatever will get them out of there as fast as possible.
