Every Bowl I Pack...the Outcome Just Disapoints Me

Recommended Posts

I use just as many as I saw there. Plus the center holes. I've used canarys and the exoticas. Just the pure amount you used there was excessive for me. I cant even use 3 of the canarys on the bowl without burning it. I think here it just might be different than where you are. Matt used 4 canarys on the large phunnel when I was at the lounge but I cant get away with that much coal on the small. It just gets harsh and burned. Just highlights the differences in location and technique I suppose. I still get monster clouds using 2 coals.

yeah...not really sure. for some reason, i tend to use more heat than everyone else. but, i still get great sessions. so, i'm guessing it's the way we pack that adds most of the variance.

soooo, i dropped the coals down to 2...getting good clouds, not great...and the flavor is there, but not as potent...hmmmmm....this may work, gotta wait to see when the bowl heats up all the way through...

note: i've noticed there isn't that slight smokey tinge as with my method...dunno if that's good or bad...i kinda liked that little smokey-ness... Edited by arcane

When I pack a bowl I place the shisha after mixing it in my bowl and don't compact it. When I am done filling up the bowl it is about 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch above the rim. I slap the foil on, press down with my palm in a circle motion. Poke as many holes as possible all the way down with a toothpick, throw 4 pieces of coco's on my grill. Let them sit on my bowl for 3 or so minutes after they are red hot .

Ok, I haven't read this whole thing yet... but I see your method, I wonder if you are pulling the foil taut when you are done? Maybe its a stupid question, but you noted so much else and didn't mention that.

Well, I do. It doesn't exactly look really smooth and nice once I push it down and then pull it to make the foil taut. Do you think that would make a big difference?

I am still having a LITTLE trouble with my Tangiers, but the main problem was how much shisha I put in. Now my problem is perfecting heat management.

I can't get a good bowl using Coco's. only if I use my golden ql's.

It's so weird.

Well, now that I have read the whole thing... I'm glad you're on to something Joe.

Im getting there. I just don't know why when I use coco's it NEVER works for me. I think that was the root of my problem. Maybe I light them...to much?

I feel like cocos are just a little too hot for tangiers. It's all I've ever used, but I imagine that heat management could be easier if I didn't... I read this thread when you started it and knew instantly that it was a not-enough-tobacco-issue. Good to hear you're on the path to awesome bowls though...

Haha, I was using SO MUCH tobacco that's why I didn't think that was it..I just barely added more and changed my packing method a bit.

Do CH coals put off as much heat as coco's? I would switch to canary's..but I hate the silver crap on them. I may just have to though.

Some of my best sessions with Tangiers has been with 3K qls. I do think cocos give off a little much heat for Tangiers. I've tried Canarys and honestly wasnt impressed. They kept falling apart and going out on me, may have been a bad box though.

It doesn't have to be perfect, but you do want to make sure that the funnel in the center is clear. I had this problem once, and it was AWFUL. Learned quick to make sure that it was clear.

Coconut coals are a lot of heat. I've been able to perfect my method with them, but it took some time... now, I just go with it and it works 99% of the time for me now.

To stop using coconut coals would be the ideal solution. But I know they are reliable. So cut them down into a size where they dont burn the shisha. That way you can have your cake and eat it too. I do it with the starlight coconut coals. It helps them work better.

yeah...if you're finding that the coco's are messing up your sessions, i bet you're using WHOLE coco's. cut them into quarters, and place one quarter at 12 o'clock, 3, 6, and 9. that should help you out with heat management. also, if the clouds aren't coming after a while...you can add more quarter pieces...

soon, after you figure out how many quarters you need, i'd try and consolidate them to halves.

Joe,

I have only used coco's on my bowls of tang and yet to have had a good bowl and I too have watched packing video after packing video would you suggest I try another type of coal?

well man that seems to be the only thing that worked for me.

I LOVE Coco's for every other brand of shisha I smoke, the ones that can take the heat. I am going to keep experimenting with QL's and Tangiers. Hopefully I will find an ideal amount of coal to use.

I suggest you do the same, or just attempt to cut your coco's and give your Tangiers bowls less heat.

More holes, more tobacco. Try what seems like a ridiculous amount of tobacco in there. If you aren't having success with Lucid either, it might be charcoal or some other factor non-Tangiers related. Have you tried smoking something else recently?

Why do you have to go and make a big post about how Tangiers is a failure? If you say it doesn't work, so it doesn't work. You got to make some big drama post about how you've pronounced Tangiers a failure. You say you don't mean anything personal by it, thats fine, but you have to go off and be all intensive about it...you then call me out that I read this post, like I don;t read most of the posts on HF. I spent over an hour on the phone with you, its not like I'm not trying to make it work, too. Its your right to do so though, man. Hope the Tangiers works for you.

Woooooooo... AF and Nakhla smokers tend to under-pack Tangiers. I have not had success with Tangiers because I am a lazy bum. I got the tobbaco, packed it like I would pack AF double Apple. It did not work. I tried a couple of times same thing. Then I sent it to someone else who said they enjoyed it lol.
