DistortedTruth
Okay so I've had this thing for about a week now. Smokes great, I love it. I just finally fit the brush they gave me all the way in my stem to clean the residue, but the hose port has developed some weird...substance on it. I was hoping you all could tell me what it is and how to clean it.Any help would be appreciated

delSol_si
Mine did the same thing. Actually, that looks a lot like mine. Is that a KM ice? It's in the hose port so who cares, the hose tip should go past most of that anyway.

I'm just sooo OCD when it comes to my things and them being clean and working properly.. Especially the expensive ones. That's very true though and does clear up most my worry. ilikemyusername
Thats a KM for ya. after cleaning it you're gonna have to oil it to prevent future rust. Remember, if its rusting that means the metal is disolving. As a sidenote, my MZ looks as good today as it did when i bought it in agust of 2007. What kind of oil? How do you apply it, etc.
DistortedTruth
Last time I checked. Oil was only used to lubricate things and prevent car engines from being totaled.
ilikemyusername
Oil helps to prevent rust because it penetrates into the metal and makes a non suluble barrier between the metal and moisture. And no, I'm not talking about motor oil, though it would work, just a dab of olive oil, canola oil, whatever is handy.

The idea is to use a chemical and/or astringent to remove the rust, then to seal the metal with oil to prevent further rust. Canola oil may work, but I've never tried it. What you really want is brass lacquer: what they use to protect brass instruments. I've never applied it, however, so I can be no help there. My recommendation is to leave it, or to polish it with some ketchup. No joke, ketchup on a rag will clean it right up. You'll just have to do it alot, and every time you lose a little more metal

mattarios2
im telling you, just blow dry it after you wash it. It literally takes 10 seconds on high and the entire pipe is dry.i've been doing this with all of my km's and have never ever had a problem.also, i never buy a km unless the heart and hose port are brass ... mainly for the reason the OP has shown.
