lowspeedchase
Hey all,So we Floridians face problems with proper acclimation (I know, if I read that word one more time my brain is going to pop like a zit, but stay with me) due to fluctuations in humidity. So, I was sitting in my buddy's bar on South Beach; he has a room where he keeps all the cigars with a humidifier to maintain constant humidity. The idea hit me, couldn't I acclimate my Tangier's in his room and get great baccy? Or, instead of befriending a local cigar bar owner, couldn't I acclimate in a small Humidor?i.e. http://www.centralchef.com/storefrontprofi...7714&dfid=1If you guy's think this will work, it's well worth the investment for me.What do you think? EvansLight
Sounds good at first, but the point of acclimation is preventing humidity shock, and sticking it in a humidor which maintains a constant humidity really only makes the baccy acclimated to one certain humidity. But the world outside is constantly changing, and what might be perfect one day, would be off the next.
Reyomit
Or just give up and smoke inside. But yeah the basic idea is there, hell a walk-in humidor would work...sort of.except then you have to build a roomsize humidor. I see them at cigar shops in Ybor (cuban, sort of, part of Tampa)Honestly I'd be happy if weather.com would just predict a solid 6 hour period with humidity constancy, so I could acclimate for a bit and then smoke for a bit.I've been checking every day and I've had no luck.It also can't help that I live right on the bay (Tampa Bay)
mjdx88
What EL said. Its a good idea in theory.....well you know what....maybe just maybe it would work....you would need to buy your own and keep the RH at 100% or close to it. I dont know what FL avg. humidity is but im sure its high up there. so yeah if you kept it at 85% or 90% it could work.....Be ready tho to spend a ton of money a good humi that will hold its humidity and a ton of shisha is gonna cost you, even used its gonna be around $150Check out tampahumidor.com there stuff isnt the best. But to try it out with a small batch of tang wouldnt be more than 30 bucks or so.-MikeForgot to add keeping tang with cigars is a very very bad idea for anyone who wants to try it. cigars are kept at 65% - 70% RH the tangiers will than adapt to that RH. Also if this is a friend's humi all of the cigars will soak up the flavor of the shisha they are sitting with and in a sense ruin the cigar. Sonthert
I agree with Evans Light. If you want to smoke outside acclimate outside. It would work nominally better, from what I like about smoking, to acclimate them in a freezer. The dry -> Damp transition is easier than the damp-> dry transition. A humidor would transition damp -> dry. Also, most humidors use a PG system that will absorb smells and begin depositing them all over your tobacco. lowspeedchase
Damn, and here I was thinking I'd be the next Scalli! hahaha just kidding. Well, I will try to load some in the freezer and see how that turns out. Thanks for the feedback guys, HF for the win.
Sonthert
I would still recommend acclimating it straight up, but if it poses a problem, see what keeping it in the freezer does.

Thats an idea there
Sonthert
If you could smoke in the humidor, now that would be the bee's knees.
Hippo_Master
You would have to keep the humidor at the same absolute humidity as the area you are going to smoke it. You would need a different humidor for each flavor. You would have to use a coolerdor so you don't get the cedar flavor into your tobacco. If your friend is any type of cigar lover, he would not let anything flavored even near his cigars.
Stuie
Put aside the storage humidity.... $90 for a container for one flavor of Tangiers? That's a bit excessive!
