DistortedTruth
Okay so I FINALLY got some 3K coals at a local head shop so I don't have to order them anymore (Thank god). They're quite bigger than my naturals that I have now so I'm just wondering how many I actually need. I usually use 2 naturals to get it going and then take one off as the smoke gets going or I chop one in half and use one and a half to not have to worry about taking one off. How many 3K do you think I need? I figure one to start and as it dies, add a second? That sound right?

DistortedTruth
Doesn't that get too harsh? And to add, I use an egyptian right now.

srawas89
I use 1-1.5 on an egyptian depending on the shisha. But dont split them if you want 1.5 coals just lay one flat on the bowl and lay the second coal at an angle on the first. kinda like this: (the dash is the first coal and the slash is the second)-\

mjdx88
QUOTE (mjdx88 @ Jun 28 2009, 02:03 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Honestly, if you pack your bowl right ( just pick up AF out of the tub and drop it in with a little push each time to even it out, doing so up to the rim of your bowl.) You need just one 3K coal. For the foil just take a toothpick and punch a hole ever 1/2 cm around the outer edge of the bowl, make sure to go all the way down. and then one tiny poke in the center. this should give you a great setup. Just test the bowl first if the draw is too hard poke the whole in the center all the way down. If it is still hard add 1 or 2 more tiny holes by the center. Then get the coal going to the point there is a slight flame and put it right in the middle. Flipping every 15-20 mins. With a windcover till it gets going. If/when it gets harsh remove the windcover. If the smoke gets thin add the cover back for a little bit. This is how I smoked AF for a year, till I got nat coals. I got great flavorful sessions. The smoke is not as thick as you would see from some of the other members on the forum but its pretty damn good for the lack of heat mgment. This was a reply to another thread from about a week ago. This was for AF but it works about the same for Potion, SB and Fant. Like I state its not the best smoke you will ever get but it works quite well for very little work and one coal. fineout
for a small phunnel i use 4 halves of the smaller ones and rotate...sometimes ill start it with 2 whole ones but usually 2 is fine. to halve them score them with tongs or a knife first so they stay together
ryno
On a small phunnel, I'd suggest 2-3 halves opposite each other. For most Egyptian heads, probably only need 2 halves. Use a windcover if just coals are too little or too much
DistortedTruth
Not a phunnel..yet. Standard egyptian for right now. I'll try out a few things:1. One whole coal2. Two halves3. One to get it going then adding a second
Tyler
I use 1 laying against another to start then 1 only after that. Med phunnel.
Majid
Experiment, it's the only way of really knowing what works best. I used to use halves, three halves on the outside of the bowl. You can score a 3k a little bit with a knife and snap them in half if need be.
antouwan
if they're bigger then you probably got a hold of the 44mm. i think that 3kings belong in the bin, personally...and am not exactly looking forward to using them on my vacation but what can you do?anyway....if you did get the 44mm kind i think they have to be broken up. 2 or 3 half pieces spread around the rim of the head should do you fine.
