ilikemyusername
QUOTE (Stuie @ Jul 4 2009, 01:28 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>why is it 9 times out of 10 it's always number 2.because people who break rule number two are naturally more inclined to not follow the rules, or laws, same diff. Canon
its the reason #2 is even a rule. people are not educated.
Sariél
Which just proves my point: We should educate them, not ban them .

There is a big label that says "read the rules!" if someone choses not to, they chose not to learn those rules and then when they break them lose the privilage of participating. However, banning someone is like disciplining a child, if there are negative consequences they learn, and don't do it again.

Sonthert
QUOTE (Sariél @ Jul 4 2009, 02:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Which just proves my point: We should educate them, not ban them .I personally agree with Sariel. As a moderator, on the other hand, I disagree. l would like to say a few things, in all due respect to you, Sariel. You are a cornerstone of this community, and I don't want to step on toes here...Some guys think that everyone who doesn't NHT hasn't NHT and all they need to do is tell everyone about NHT and everybody will NHT. Some guys don't care that there are people who don't have any interest in NHT and they just want to insert cute little promos for it wherever they can. Its not a question of education, they know very well that we don't want associations with NHT and hookahs, but they think that their opinion has a place where its not welcome. Some of these guys think that they are entitled to talk about and use said substances whenever and wherever they feel like. They don't care that there are people who don't want to talk about it or be around it. They come back and come back again. Personally, I think its hilarious...but they need to know when to use discretion. Most guys on the other hand, don't push their beliefs on other people. They can be productive members and not mention their other recreational activities. Some people do it as an accident and should be given leniency. They are screwed up by the guys who just do it as long as they can until they get banned, unfortunately. I would characterize that about 80% of people that violate rule #2 will do it again and again...until they get banned. Hopefully a 7 day ban is sufficient to discourage some of that 80%, but not severe enough to discourage the 20% that made a mistake and will follow the rules when they are. I think that the moderators are doing a very good job of applying the rules fairly and universally to all. Are the rules too stringent? I don't have an answer to that, unfortunately. So seriously, Sariel, if you could draft some sort of proposal and PM me with it, I would be happy to endorse it and pass it along to the rest of the moderators...I can't guarantee it will be accepted, but I would like to hear your perspective/ideas on the matter and I think other moderators might too. I might dare say, if anyone has earned the right to offer their ideas about how the Hookah Forum is run, you have.As an afterthought, it would be nice to have a magic button that stopped people from acting inappropriately, but who gets to decide when to use it? What kind of country would we live in if that button existed? Not one that claims to be free.
