Cerritus
After switching from Exoticas when they started exploding, my Starlight naturals just exploded all over my kitchen. And I stepped on one while cleaning up the pieces. Nice new blister on my foot.
Big Boss
I can't say I've ever had one "explode" on me but I've had quick lites 'pop'. Please tell me that you're not doing what Scalli did a year or two ago and try to light them in your microwave...
Cerritus
No, on a stovetop like I always have. They just have enough wood left in them that they pop like a burning log and shoot little pieces all over.

momatik
That's fucking dangerous. I'd call or send an email to that company. That's ridiculous.
Genie
Never had that happen to my Shishacos or my Cocos. Have never used wood coals, don't think I'd put up with that more than once!
Arcane
maybe those charcoal gnomes are on a rampage....two days in a row i had coals explode while picking them up with my tongs. one with my canarys and another with CH QLs....with the canarys, it happens occasionally....but, i never thought i'd see a CH QL explode. Cerritus
My foot's fine now, just a nice blister. The exoticas were only popping enough to make them roll off the stove, that starlight literally exploded. It was a wood coal btw, not their coconut ones. Tyler
3K are the only QL I'll ever use, other than maybe CH coals which I havn't tried yet.
ih303
I've seen plenty of coals explode but never on the burner. Occasionally, one will pop and shoot a spark or two but never the whole thing. Weird.

I use the coconut ones and was afraid that quality may be going down, so glad to hear it isn't the cocos. I personally love Starlight Coconut coals, they have done me great. Zooyork15
It sounds like your cooking them to hot on your stove... Is your stove super godly or what?

If they split on the vertical it would be fine but they dont do that. Stopped using those and am now using bamboo stick coals from the local Mediterranean market. These things rule big time. I would have no problem recommending them to anyone so far. Used about half a box.
TizaNabi
I scorched my pants once on a flying coal. All the coals in the ammount I bought then were like that.
Sonthert
Maybe they come from the same manufacturer?
