Keep The Shisha Tobacco In The Freezer?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am a newbie with the shisha experience and i heard that i have to keep the shisha tobacco in the freezer. Is there any reason why it should be in there? Before using the tobacco, do i need to put the tobacco out for a certain time?

Thanks a lot!

I would definitely advise against putting it in the freezer; I know many people who keep it in the fridge, but I've read that there's no hard evidence indicating that this prolongs the life of shisha. In fact, I know Fumari's packaging explicitly says not to keep it in the fridge. Just make sure it's in an airtight container, and you should be good.

I am always baffled by this idea, fridge or freezer.

The extreme temperatures cause separation of oils and juices from anything. Put coffee beans in the fridge for a couple days and it will never taste like it did before, starbucks coffee will taste good in comparison. Notice how even food has a week before it starts going bad in the fridge and the freezer will damage the tobacco while pulling out the juices and flavoring at the same time. Undoing the process it takes to create shisha.

Bad idea.

general rule is to store the tobacco in the same environment that you smoke it in. unless the fridge/freezer you're storing the tobacco in is a walk-in and you're smoking in there, i wouldn't put it in there for a minute

hahaha that would be hard to keep the coals going!

Just store it in air tight containers at room temperature. No fridge or freezer. Makes me cringe thinking about that for some reason.

My mom stores her shisha in the fridge...smokes damn well tho. However I think the fact that it is nakhla the reason why it smokes just fine since Nakhla pretty much makes their shisha quite differently than the more modern brands as they dont use glycerin (98% sure on that fact). Every other shisha I have stored stays in an airtight container or bag at room temp. away from direct sunlight.

The freezinf will separate the compounds like glycerin from shisha, and when thawing out you are givng it the second big shock soon to be third temp. shock as it thaws and changes humidity.

no it wouldnt! i have smoked in -30 celcius temperatures before and the coals burn just fine. it just takes a mightly long time to get the bowl warmed up.

I keep mine in little tupperwares that I found in my late great aunt's apartment, I also found a couple of those hinged glass jars with the rubber gasket in them, and both work fine, the tupperware is great as long as you burp it, but it can be a pain when trying to clean them out, especially if you have a potent smelling shisha in there (nak licorice :X) it will stick to the tupperware, which can be frustrating. Just let them soak overnight in hot water, and they're usually fine.

This daft idea of freezing tobacco came from a little known cottage industrey tobacco maker.

Crazy as it sounds it did help this brand of shisha tobacco.

Of course the fact it was allready 99% glycarin might have something todo with it puke.gif

While we are on the topic of shisha in the fridge/freezer.
I have an empty mini fridge that isn't plugged in in my room. My roommate keeps taking my good shisha and smoking all of it so I need to lock it up. The mini fridge has a lock on it so I'm thinking of putting the tobacco in there. Since it's not plugged in and running do you guys think there would be any negative side effects if I store some of my tobacco in there??

Hmmm...well I would assume that it would just be like a cabinet since it's not plugged in. But I wonder if there are any chemicals or huge huidity changes for some reason. Don't think there would be though so that should be fine. Maybe someone who knows more about science can help you with that one smile.gif

probably would be safer for the investment than the roommate stealing it all :-p

I would think that it wouldn't be a problem. My only concern would be any residual smells in the fridge possibly funking up your shisha. Also I might let my shisha air out a little before smoking because the fridge should be air tight and different humidities could introduce some issues, esp tangiers.

I don't think there's a lot of circulation in those things. Background smells are an issue, too. The propylene glycol readily absorbs smells from the air.
