scratchy
So I love Nak chocomint, so much so, that I keep buying it even though it feels like I get a bad batch every single time. It starts off great every time, but after a few good hits, I get this weird, and I don't know how to explain it, sensation in my throat. It's a very weird sensation, it's like a burning, stabbing feeling with a weird (over minty) taste. It feels like the mint is burning my throat, but I just can't put my finger on it. It's not the shisha burning, that I've ruled out. I've had this happen with every single batch I've bought, which is over a kilo worth of the stuff. I bought 3 x 50 gram boxes yesterday, 1 being an old batch(Dark green packaging and overly dry) and 2 being being of the newer batches(Light green packaging and dripping in juices. All of them had the same result Any idea on what it can be? P.S. Yes I've tried sprinkling, packing it down, packing in more, packing in less, more coals, less coals, just the right amount of coals, lots of small holes and a few large holes. mushrat
Its called too much heat. When Nakhla choco-mint gets too hot it looses the choco flavour and you get the mint real strong. The throat burning stabbing is burning tobacco ripping into your lungs. How much coal do you usually use?
scratchy
I've gone everywhere from 2 x 1/4 to 4 x 1/4 coals.
Arcane
i've gone through what mushy says...normally, i drop 2-3 canarys on every other bowl and it turns out fine...but, with the chocomint...i tend to build up the heat gradually and it seems to work for me. it's the best chocomint available... scratchy
So you're saying I should start with 1/4 and add another one every now and then?
Arcane
QUOTE (scratchy @ Jul 9 2009, 04:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>So you're saying I should start with 1/4 and add another one every now and then?what kind of bowl? if its a larger egyptian, then maybe 2 halves on opposite sides. working your way up to 3-4 halves. a phunnel...i'd go 3 halves and a windcover added later...working your way up to 4 with a windcover (although, that may be tooooo much heat...even for nakhla)
scratchy
2 halves on a larger egyptian didnt work. Even worse on a standard egyptian

ih303
Hey, mush. How do you serve chocomint at your lounge? Obviously you don't have the luxury of building up heat very gradually when you're trying to get a bowl out in the shortest amount of time possible. We've had similar problems with the flavor at our lounge. The mint just gets really strong and almost freezes the back of your throat to the point where it's uncomfortable. I've been using two AF Natural coals on a mod bowl.
